We roll out our second set of state rankings for 2024

It’s high school football season once again in the Sunshine State! Nope, not that kind of football. Not yet anyways, darn it.

Girls flag football season is underway throughout the state of Florida and there’s plenty of good ball being played.

Headlining the top of the rankings heading into the second week of play is the No. 1, Alonso Ravens of Hillsborough County, and at No. 2 is Robinson. Both teams won state championships last May and are coming off strong 2023 campaigns. There’s a slew of teams we looked at for our initial rankings and now we break out the second edition. Check out our power rankings and let us know what you think.

Find the complete breakdown of the SBLive Florida Girls Flag Football Power 25:

1. Alonso (2-0)

Two up and two down for the Ravens. Gabby Werr and Raya Dean have led the team to 103 points scored through two games. Oh, and defense has yet to yield a point.

2. Robinson (3-0)

Like Alonso, Robinson has also yet to allow a point this season. The play of quarterback Haidyn Spano has impressed with 13 touchdowns this season.

3. Lennard (3-0)

Right on the heels of the Ravens and the Knights is the Longhorns of Lennard. Grayce Bird is among the best in the state at the receiver position.

4. Choctawhatchee (1-0)

A 40-0 win over Destin was nice, but the Indians will have back to back tests against Navarre and Niceville.

5. Western (3-0)

Sophomore Anabella Puccio has looked good so far, throwing for 244 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions.

6. Fleming Island (3-0)

Having an athlete like London Jenkins on your team definitely helps out things a lot.

7. Miami Edison (2-0)

It’s been pure dominance down in South Florida for the Red Raiders, shutting out both True North Classical and Downtown Doral.

8. Seminole Ridge (3-0)

The Hawks have displayed their dominance through three games, scoring 58 points and allowing zero. A 7-0 win over Newsome moves them up.

9. Newsome (2-2)

We won’t bump the Wolves too far down despite two losses have come to Seminole Ridge and No. 2 Robinson.

10. Pace (4-0)

Amaya Pablo is picking up where she left off last season, throwing for 788 yards, 12 touchdowns and no interceptions.

11. Steinbrenner (4-1)

Only loss of the season so far was a 19-0 decision against Newsome. Outside of that, Steinbrenner has looked good.

12. Miami Southridge (2-0)

The Spartans not only beat the Killian Cougars, but cruised to a 45-0 win. Now Southridge catapults into our top 25 rankings.

13. Mainland (4-0)

When taking a look at the East Coast, the Buccaneers have been impressive after one week. They’ve been stingy with points, allowing just 18.

14. Paxon School (3-0)

The Golden Eagles are soaring after Week 1 and have piled up 103 points and only yielding six. Impressive start.

15. Wellington (3-0)

One thing for certain, the Wolverines can score a boatload of points. This club is averaging 40 points per game this season.

16. Piper (3-0)

Can’t argue with the results so far from Piper, with the club notching victories over Hallandale, St. Thomas Aquinas and Cooper City.

17. Sandalwood (3-0)

Sophomore running back Kirsten Gudmalin has impressed, rushing for 226 yards and five touchdowns.

18. Armwood (2-0)

The Hawks start off 2024 with a pair of 32-0 wins over Middleton and Blake. Defensively, this is a stout unit.

19. Miami Central (0-0)

Yes, we’ve got to have the Rockets somewhere on this initial list. They were one of South Florida’s more talented clubs and came close to turning the corner in 2023.

20. Trinity Catholic (5-0)

Head coach JB Bynum has the Celtics playing about as good as anyone right now. The offense especially with 132 points scored.

21.

22. Winter Park (2-0)

Of the Orlando area teams, Winter Park has been the standout of them all. Wildcats have scored 66 points and allowed zero in wins over Gateway and Colonial.

23. Braden River (3-0)

Cydnee Brooks has this Pirates’ offense humming so far as she’s thrown for 245 yards and two touchdowns. She’s also scored three rushing scores.

24. Fort Pierce Central (4-0)

Wins over Jupiter, Okeechobee, Lincoln Park Academy and Royal Palm Beach have lifted Fort Pierce Central into our rankings.

25. Springstead (2-0)

The Eagles have woken some people up after their first two wins this season, throttling Lake Weir 43-6 and soundly upending Palm Harbor University 27-6.
