5-star Mater Dei quarterback Bryce Young flips commitment from USC to Alabama
Mater Dei senior quarterback Bryce Young flipped his collegiate commitment from USC to Alabama Sunday. He announced the news on Twitter. A five-star recruit, Young is considered the top dual-threat QB in the class of 2020 by 247Sports.
There had been speculation that Young was wavering on his pledge to USC. He went on an official visit to Alabama over the weekend, which apparently sealed the deal.
Current Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa can enter the NFL draft after this season. Young will compete with Tagovailoa's brother, Taulia, a freshman quarterback for the Crimson Tide as well as a few other underclassmen signal callers for Alabama's starting quarterback job next fall.
Young is the second Southern California native to join Alabama's 2020 recruiting class. Narbonne wide receiver Traeshon Holden committed in March.
Through four games this season, Young has thrown for 1,272 yards, 14 touchdowns and one interception. He has also rushed for 143 yards and five TDs.
