2018 IN REVIEW

4-6 overall record, 4-1 in 1A North Sound Conference; lost to Lynden Christian 42-14 in district round of playoffs

COACHING RESUME

HC: Jim Shapiro

141-98 record (23rd season as head coach)

Coordinators: Jim Shapiro (OC); Dave Taylor (DC).

Base schemes: Spread offense, 5-2-3 defense

RETURNING

Offense - 4. Defense - 5.

TOP RETURNERS

OT Colin Hamilton, 6-7, 275, Sr.

WR/DB Davis Campbell, 5-10, 170, Sr.

QB Luke Marion, 6-0, 190, Sr.

TE/DE Elian Sundquist, 6-2, 200, Jr.

THREE TO SEE

OT Colin Hamilton, 6-7, 275, Sr.

A monster amongst children and an all-state candidate - Colin’s size separates him from the rest of the league, and his smarts on and off the field could get him some Ivy League offers this season. Currently has offers from USD and Central Washington.

WR/DB Davis Campbell, 5-10, 170, Sr.

An all-league selection last year, Campbell is a sure-handed playmaker that can impact the game on both sides of the ball.

QB Luke Marion, 6-0, 190, Sr.

Marion comes in as an experienced signal-caller, and his senior leadership will be instrumental in pushing King’s into the state playoffs.

OUTLOOK

The Knights will count on their small group of talented seniors to lead the way for a skilled, yet overall inexperienced squad after a second place league finish last year. A large underclassmen presence could mean struggles early on in efforts to get guys comfortable with the system. However, coming off the cusp of two consecutive losing seasons, veteran coach Jim Shapiro will be under a lot of pressure to bring the Knights back to their winning ways of old. Remember - the boys in black and red are only three seasons removed from a 2015 state championship run, in which they fell short to 1A powerhouse Royal. Expect a team with something to prove this season.
