THREE TO SEE

Cameron Brauer, quarterback

Much like two-year graduated starter Kellen Kranc, he is a fearless gunslinger

Jackson McCann, defensive back

Received all-league honors despite splitting starting cornerback job with a senior

Ricky Portillo, defensive back

Will be interesting to see what makes free safety more popular -- ball-hawking or hair

OUTLOOK

In the final two games of last season, the normally-stingy Hornets gave up 96 points, including 55 in a district-playoff loss at Union.

And yet, the defense’s biggest culprit -- the secondary -- turned that downer into a positive this offseason.

For a change, coach Gunderson will heavily rely on his back four to dictate the terms to opposing offenses, hopefully rendering them to dink-and-dunk units.

Jackson and rising sophomore Dylan Waterson are aggressive cornerbacks, while Portillo and Snyder are speedy ball hawks at free safety.

On offense, Gunderson has praised Brauer’s offseason in preparing to be the new starting quarterback. The junior is an ultra-competitive perfectionist.
