Of the seven Round 1 games, the most intriguing might be Rogers at Cabot — the only matchup of teams among the top 15 in last week's SBLive state rankings. It figures to be a shootout, with Tyler Gee (22 touchdown passes through eight games) leading a big-play Panthers offense against a Mountaineers team that finished fourth in 7A in points.
Another first-round game to watch will be Northside at Har-Ber, two teams that also have spent time in the SBLive Top 20. The Wildcats started 0-4, won four in a row, then closed the regular season with consecutive losses, including Friday's 33-27 setback against Fayetteville — a team the Grizzlies edged 33-30 in Week 6.
Bryant enters the postseason as the odds-on favorite to win another state title. The Hornets have won 26 in a row, have defeated every in-state opponent by at least 28 points, and will open the playoffs against 1-9 Rogers Heritage.
