SBLive’s Top 25 in Georgia high school baseball: Can anybody beat Buford?
Buford continues to mow through the competition whether the Wolves' opponents are from Georgia, Florida or Alabama.
And North Gwinnett makes its top 25 debut heading into a big home game against No. 2 Loganville.
The rankings cover all classifications.
1. Buford: 8-0
Last week: 1
Buford continued its streak of dominance as it went undefeated over the weekend and won the LaGrange Invitational.
2. Loganville: 8-1
Last week: 3
Loganville went 3-1 in the Perfect Game Showdown facing some tough Alabama competition.
3. Houston County: 7-2
Last week: 2
Houston County suffered two tough losses to start off the LaGrange Invitational but ended the tournament with two wins over Jesuit (Florida) and Madison Central (Mississippi).
4. Allatoona: 9-0
Last week: 4
Allatoona went 3-0 last week and scored 35 runs in those three games.
5. Mount Paran Christian: 9-1
Last week: 5
Mount Paran went 3-1 against some talented teams in the Perfect Game Shootout in Hoover, Alabama. Its only loss came against arguably the top program in Alabama, Hewitt-Trussville.
6. Lassiter: 9-2
Last week: 6
Lassiter’s win streak climbed to eight straight with a 13-0 win over Newnan and taking down Pace (Florida) and Florida Christian.
7. North Oconee: 7-1
Last week: 7
North Oconee went 2-0 last week and ended with a 10-0 blowout versus previously No. 16 North Hall.
8. Greenbrier: 8-1
Last week: 11
Greenbrier continued to pile up wins, beating Evans and Lakeside to extend its win streak to six.
9. Pace Academy: 8-0
Last week: 12
Pace Academy has been firing on all cylinders all season, as the Knights have scored 70 runs and allowed only 14.
10. Parkview: 5-4
Last week: 9
Parkview has won three of its last four games, with its three wins coming in the Perfect Game Shootout in Alabama.
11. Lambert: 7-3
Last week: 10
Lambert started its week with a loss to Harrison but rebounded with blowout wins over Starr's Mill and Hillgrove.
12. Walton: 8-3
Last week: 13
Walton has won five of its last six games after beating Dunwoody and Norcross, but lost 11-8 to Etowah.
13. Woodstock: 5-3
Last week: 14
Woodstock went 2-0 last week, taking down Grayson and Kell.
14. Wesleyan: 6-2
Last week: 17
Wesleyan has been playing some great baseball at the plate and defensively, as evidenced by its four-game win streak.
15. Pope: 7-4
Last week: 18
Pope rebounded after a tough stretch of five games and went 2-0 last week beating Milton and Dunwoody.
16. Marist: 3-3
Last week: 8
Marist went 1-2 on the week, losing to Creekview and Buford before taking down Jesuit (Florida).
17. Benedictine: 7-2
Last week: 25
Benedictine has put it all together during a five-game win streak. The Cadets' hot bats are a big reason for the recent success.
18. Savannah Christian: 6-2
Last week: 20
Savannah Christian rebounded after its ugly loss to Loganville with three straight wins versus East Paulding, Decatur and Camden County.
19. Lovett: 7-2
Last week: 21
Lovett has won six of its last seven games, and in two games last week the Lions scored 16 runs and allowed only one.
20. Valdosta: 8-2
Last week: 22
Valdosta extended its win streak to six, and the Wildcats have won eight of their last nine.
21. Etowah: 8-1
Last week: 23
Etowah’s win streak is up to eight games after taking down St. Pius, Walton and Grayson in its last three.
22. Glynn Academy: 6-0
Last week: 24
Glynn Academy stayed hot last week, scoring 30 runs while allowing only three.
23. North Gwinnett: 9-2
Last week: unranked
North Gwinnett makes its way into the top 25 for the first time this season. The Bulldogs have won five in a row and including wins over Dacula, Grayson and Gulliver Prep (Florida).
24. South Effingham: 7-1
Last week: unranked
The Mustangs are on a five-game win streak and recently defeated Jenkins 21-0.
25. North Hall: 5-4
Last week: 16
North Hall’s brief win streak came to a halt after falling to North Oconee 10-0.
