SBLive’s Top 25 in Georgia high school baseball: Etowah continues its ascent
Etowah and Benedictine are two of the biggest risers this week, but Buford remains the undisputed No. 1.
1. Buford: 10-0
Last week: 1
Buford swept the three game series it had against Lanier last week. The Wolves are enjoying a start reminiscent of last year’s undefeated regular season. Buford continues to look unstoppable.
2. Houston County: 10-2
Last week: 3
Houston County suffered two losses to start out March but has been on a roll since. The Bears are on a five-game win streak and the bats have been blazing, driving in 58 runs in that span.
3. Allatoona: 11-0
Last week: 4
Allatoona took down region opponents Sprayberry and Pope to start 2-0 in region play heading into a huge game Monday at Lassiter.
4. Loganville: 9-2
Last week: 2
Loganville missed some action with a couple of rainouts but went 1-1 over the week, losing to Collins Hill and then getting a walk-off win over Brookwood.
5. Mount Paran: 12-1
Last week: 5
Mount Paran went 3-0 and scored 24 runs while allowing none against Harrison and a doubleheader versus Christian Heritage.
6. North Oconee: 10-1
Last week: 7
North Oconee increased its win streak to seven after a series sweep over region opponent Chestatee.
7. Lassiter: 10-3
Last week: 6
Lassiter’s eight-game win streak came to a close after a tough one-run loss to region rival Kell. The Trojans rebounded with a win over Sprayberry, improving their region record to 1-1.
8. Greenbrier: 8-2
Last week: 8
Greenbrier’s games got rained out last week, but the Wolfpack will face region opponent Apalachee on Monday and play at No. 4 Loganville on Friday.
9. Pace Academy: 8-0
Last week: 9
Pace Academy has been firing on all cylinders all season, as the Knights have scored 70 runs and allowed only 14.
10. Parkview: 6-4
Last week: 10
Parkview took down previously red-hot North Gwinnett and has won four of its last five games.
11. Lambert: 10-3
Last week: 11
Lambert has won five in a row after beating South Forsyth at home Friday and has won eight of its last nine.
12. Woodstock: 8-3
Last week: 13
Woodstock is on a five-game win streak and will see its first region action Monday versus Roswell.
13. Benedictine: 9-2
Last week: 17
Benedictine’s win streak sits at seven straight after going 2-0 last week. The Cadets scored 23 runs in those two games while allowing none.
14. Etowah: 10-1
Last week: 21
Etowah ran its win streak to 10 straight. The Eagles have defeated St. Pius, Walton, Grayson, Pope and North Paulding in their last five games.
15. Wesleyan: 7-3
Last week: 14
Wesleyan went 1-1 last week, taking down Dunwoody but then losing to Blessed Trinity 14-3.
16. Marist: 5-3
Last week: 16
Marist went 2-0 last week, taking down Hillgrove and Mill Creek.
17. Walton: 9-4
Last week: 12
Walton suffered its worst loss of the season in a 9-0 blowout versus Cherokee.
18. Savannah Christian: 8-3
Last week: 18
Savannah Christian took a 2-1 series win over Calvary Day over the weekend and will take on Islands in a two-game series this week.
19. Lovett: 8-3
Last week: 19
Lovett went down to Florida for a spring break tournament and went 2-1. The Lions had blowout victories over Northside Christian (Florida) and Tampa Prep, but fell to Calvary Christian (Florida).
20. Valdosta: 10-2
Last week: 20
Valdosta’s win streak improved to eight straight after going 2-0 last week. Valdosta scored 20 runs didn’t allow a run in those two games.
21. Glynn Academy: 11-1
Last week: 22
Glynn Academy won the season series 2-1 against Effingham County and will move on to a three-game series against Richmond Hill.
22. Richmond Hill: 10-2
Last week: unranked
Richmond Hill has found its way into the top 25 behind a 10-game win streak that includes wins over Woodstock, Ware County, Greenbrier and Brunswick.
23. North Forsyth: 12-3
Last week: unranked
North Forsyth has won five of its last six games. The Raiders have wins against Pope, Starr’s Mill, Perry and North Hall this season.
24. South Forsyth: 8-2
Last week: unranked
South Forsyth's only two losses are to top 15 teams (Lambert and Wesleyan), and the War Eagles get their chance at revenge against Lambert on Monday.
25. Cherokee: 9-4
Last week: unranked
Cherokee has gone under the radar to start the season but is on a five-game win streak, beating Walton, Harrison, Long (Alabama), Glencoe (Alabama) and North Paulding. The Warrirors have one-run late-game losses to Parkview, Blessed Trinity and Calera (Alabama).
