Nationally-ranked Langston Hughes football upset by Douglas County (Georgia)

The Panthers, ranked No. 18 in the country, took their second loss of the season on Friday

The 2023 high school football season hasn't gone according to plan for nationally-ranked Langston Hughes (Georgia), and that trend continued this week.

No. 18 Langston Hughes was upset at home Friday night by Douglas County, losing 30-27 to the Tigers in a key region game.

It's the second loss in three weeks for Langston Hughes (3-2), which entered the matchup at No. 18 in the SBLive/Sports Illustrated Power 25 national rankings.

The Panthers began the season ranked No. 19 in the country. After a thrilling win over USC commit Julian Lewis and Carrollton (Georgia) to start the season, Langston Hughes climbed as high as No. 15 in the national rankings.

The Panthers fell in the Power 25 rankings after losing to Butler (North Carolina) earlier this month, and they'll likely fall again due to their latest result.

While unranked nationally and in the state, Douglas County entered the matchup undefeated.

The Tigers improved to 5-0 this year with the road win over nationally-ranked Langston Hughes.
