Georgia Football Class A-D1 State Championship Preview: Prince Avenue Christian vs. Swainsboro /

When: Monday, December 11, 2023 - 4:00 p.m.

Where: Mercedes Benz Stadium, Atlanta, Georgia

The Match-up:

We have ourselves a rematch.

Prince Avenue Christian won its second state championship in three years last year when it beat Swainsboro 52-34. With both teams ready to face off again this year in the Class A D-1 finals, the Wolverines will enter as the heavy favorites to repeat.

The Wolverines have been the No. 1 ranked team in Class A D-1 all season. Their only loss came against Class 3A Mary Persons and they have since won six games in a row, including a first-round forfeit by Athens Christian.

The Tigers entered the playoffs as a No. 3 seed and weren’t given much of a chance to make it back to the state finals.

Against all odds, however, the Tigers won four straight road playoff games to reach the finals for a second straight year. Those four wins on the road came against Metter, Lamar County, Elbert County and Brooks County.

The Tigers have played stiffer competition in the playoffs, and that might help them to a degree. But it’s going to be incredibly difficult to beat the Aaron Philo-led Wolverines in Mercedes-Benz on Dec. 11.

Our Prediction:

Prince Avenue Christian 48, Swainsboro 21
