Top 25 Georgia high school girls basketball rankings (2/8/2024)

Holy Innocents earns a spot in the Top 25; Campbell and New Manchester each climb four spots

With the regular season coming to a close for a lot of teams around the state this week, the Georgia girls basketball Power 25 had a good amount of movement.

The biggest winners in the rankings this week included Holy Innocents, who came in at No. 17 after being unranked last week, Campbell, who is up four spots to No. 16 and New Manchester, who is up four spots to No. 19.

GEORGIA GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL POWER 25

1. GRAYSON (24-0)

The Rams are one win away from completing a perfect regular season for the first time in program history. They can do it with a win on the road at Newton Thursday night.

2. HEBRON CHRISTIAN (22-2)

The Lions won’t finish their regular season undefeated like Grayson will, but they can complete an undefeated regular season against teams from the state of Georgia with a win against Stephens County on Friday night.

3. MOUNT PARAN CHRISTIAN (21-3)

The Eagles completed their regular season Wednesday night with a win against Washington. They will head into their region tournament with a 21-3 record, and they’ve only lost to one team from the state of Georgia (No. 1 Grayson 55-52).

4. RIVER RIDGE (21-4)

The Knights’ regular season is in the books after they beat Rome 59-38 on Tuesday night. They finish with a 21-4 record and they will now gear up for their region tournament, which will start in the coming days.

5. WESLEYAN (20-3)

The Wolves’ five-point loss to Buford a week and a half ago is looking like the distant past. They’ve since rattled off four wins in a row, including back-to-back wins against Top 25 teams. On Wednesday night, they beat a good Galloway team 61-53 on the road to earn their 20th win of the season.

6. ST. FRANCIS (16-7)

The Knights capped off their regular season on a high note, crushing Langston Hughes 69-52. As the rankings currently stand, the Knights have played six games against ranked teams, as well as nationally-ranked IMG Academy.

7. BUFORD (22-3)

The Wolves slip back two spots to No. 7 after suffering their third loss of the season to Holy Innocents last Saturday. There’s still a lot to like about the Wolves heading into their region tournament.

8. UNION GROVE (24-1)

The Wolverines will look to finish out their regular season with a 25-1 record on Thursday night. It would mark their 14th straight win, and they will be the heavy favorite to win the Region 2-5A championship.

9. BALDWIN (22-2)

The Braves picked up two more wins this week and finished out their regular season with an impressive 67-39 win over Swainsboro Tuesday night. They will now gear up for their upcoming region tournament where they will be the favorite.

10. MARIST (22-1)

The War Eagles are up to No. 10 in this week’s Power 25, their highest ranking of the season after improving to 22-1 on the season. They’ve won 14 in a row and can make it 15 in a row to end the regular season with a win Friday night against Lakeside.

11. NORCROSS (20-5)

The Blue Devils reached the 20-win mark in their final regular season game of the year Monday night when they defeated North Gwinnett by double digits. They’re up one spot to No. 11 and they will now gear up for their region 7-7A tournament.

12. CARROLLTON (21-2)

The Trojans saw their 20-game win streak go up in smoke last Friday night after they were beaten on the road by Campbell. The loss doesn’t do much to their overall outlook moving forward, but it does bring them back down to reality after ripping off 20 wins in a row.

13. HARDAWAY (21-4)

The Hawks are up one spot to No. 13 in this week’s Power 25 after ending their regular season on a high note. They defeated Bainbridge to earn win No. 21 on the yar, and it was their 18th win in a row dating back to a Nov. 29 loss to No. 11 Norcross.

14. NORTH FORSYTH (25-0)

The Raiders remain in the No. 15 spot this week after closing out their regular season undefeated at 25-0. They’ll now look to keep things going in the upcoming Region 8-6A tournament and take home the championship.

15. GALLOWAY (13-9)

The Scots are up two spots to No. 16 in this week’s rankings after a solid week of basketball. They closed out their regular season with a loss to Wesleyan, but it was a good effort. They will now turn their attention to the Region 6-D1 tournament.

16. CAMPBELL (17-9)

The Spartans are the second biggest mover this week, up four spots to No. 17 after beating previous No. 10 ranked Carrollton last week. The Spartans are peaking at the right time, having won seven in a row to close out the regular season.

17. HOLY INNOCENTS (18-6)

Ever since losing the vast majority of their out-of-state games, the Golden Bears have slipped under the radar. That changed this week after they took down then No. 5 Buford 78-75 for their 12th win in a row. Their in-state resume all-of-a-sudden looks pretty good with a win over Buford and a slim 2-point loss to No. 5 Wesleyan.

18. PICKENS (21-3)

After nearly beating Wesleyan at home in their first meeting, the Dragons didn’t fare as well in the rematch Tuesday night. The Dragons lost 54-42, and now two of their three losses on the year have come against the Wolves.

19. NEW MANCHESTER (20-4)

The Jaguars ended their regular season on a major high note Wednesday night, beating then No. 13 Langston Hughes in blowout fashion, 59-44. It was also a revenge game for the Jaguars, who lost to the Panthers earlier in the season. They’re up four spots to No. 19 in this week’s rankings.

20. MAYNARD JACKSON (21-1)

The Jaguars have just one blemish on their schedule - a 64-56 loss to North Paulding - and they will have a chance to finish that way with a win against Midtown on Friday night in their regular-season finale.

21. LANGSTON HUGHES (19-6)

The Panthers haven’t gotten the ending to the regular season they had hoped for, and they’ve taken a tumble down the rankings as a result. Entering their last three games 18-4, the Panthers lost two out of their last three, including a 59-44 loss to a red-hot New Manchester squad Wednesday night in their regular-season finale. Both losses came against Top 20 teams, but both losses were blowouts.

22. CARVER-COLUMBUS (17-6)

The Tigers fall back one spot to No. 21 after extending their winning streak to six in a row. They can close out their regular season with a win on Friday night at home against Dougherty.

23. NORTH PAULDING (19-6)

After falling back 10 spots to No. 24 in last week’s rankings, the Wolfpack are up two spots to No. 21 after getting back on track with a win against McEachern on Tuesday night.

24. JOSEY (21-2)

The Eagles won their 12th game in a row on Tuesday night and it didn’t come easy. They held off Thomson for a hard-fought 53-50 win to improve to 21-2 on the season.

25. THOMPSON (19-2)

It’s only right at this point to keep the Bulldogs in the 25th spot, right? They’ve held onto this spot for the past few weeks after playing very solid basketball, and after nearly beating No. 23 Josey this week, that’s more than enough to keep them at No. 25 to end the regular season.
