SBLive Power 10 Idaho high school football rankings, Week 10: Rounding it out with two more new teams
Each week, SBLive Idaho will update its all-classification top-10 high school football rankings.
Here is the Week 10 list compiled by SBLive Idaho correspondent Brandon Walton:
1. MERIDIAN (9-0)
Last week: Defeated Eagle, 35-0.
This week: First-round playoff bye.
RB Rylie Byington racked up 212 all-purpose yards, including 125 rushing yards on just nine carries, and the Warriors forced five turnovers to claim their first 5A Southern Idaho Conference title in 15 years.
2. ROCKY MOUNTAIN (8-1)
Last week: Defeated Borah, 50-20.
This week: Hosts Kuna in 5A first-round playoff game.
QB Tegan Sweaney went 14-of-18 for 328 yards and three touchdowns, while University of Idaho commit Art Williams turned just 12 carries into 129 yards and three scores as Grizzlies emphatically punched their ticket to state.
3. BISHOP KELLY (9-0)
Last week: Defeated Skyview, 42-20.
This week: Hosts Canyon Ridge in 4A opening round playoff game.
RB Peter Minnaert ran for three touchdowns for the Knights, who pulled away in the third quarter with three scores in less than a four-minute span to break a 14-14 tie that capped an unbeaten regular season and No. 1 seed at state.
4. HIGHLAND (6-3)
Last week: Defeated Thunder Ridge, 44-26.
This week: First-round playoff bye.
Rams have now won six out of seven games, thanks to WR Gunner Wilhem, who scored on an 8-yard run and a 67-yard reception while also recovering fumble on defense to help them win 5A High Country Conference crown.
5. RIGBY (7-2)
Last week: Defeated Madison, 42-0.
This week: Hosts Owyhee in 5A first-round playoff game.
Defense contained QB Ben Dredge (4-of-16, 36 yards) for third shutout of season - and their own QB Luke Flowers threw three touchdowns passes as Trojans now look to defend their title.
6. EAGLE (6-3)
Last week: Lost to No. 1 Meridian, 35-0.
This week: First-round playoff bye.
Five-game winning streak was snapped after being held to just 188 total yards of offense and committing five turnovers that turned into 28 points, resulting in their worst loss of the season.
7. SUGAR-SALEM (8-0)
Last week: Defeated South Fremont, 47-19.
This week: First-round playoff bye.
Senior QB Daniel Neal accounted for six total touchdowns, including three through the air to go along with 150 yards as Diggers won their eighth game in a row by double digits for fifth consecutive 3A Mountain Rivers Conference title.
8. MINICO (8-1)
Last week: Defeated Twin Falls, 23-7.
This week: Hosts Vallivue in 4A first-round playoff game.
Spartans passed toughest in-state test this fall, thanks to a couple of fourth-quarter touchdown runs by RBs Joseph Terry and Jafeth Benedle, who helped them capture back-to-back 4A Great Basin Conference championships.
9. POST FALLS (7-2)
Last week: Defeated Lake City, 49-19.
This week: First-round playoff bye.
Trojans ended 27-year drought by capturing first outright conference title since 1995, in large part due to back-up RB Tevin Burns, who racked up 204 yards and seven touchdowns - all in first half.
10. NAMPA (7-2)
Last week: Defeated Centennial, 24-14.
This week: Hosts Mountain View in 5A first-round playoff game.
In first season back up in 5A, Bulldogs clinched a spot at state with RBs Daniel Carrillo and Dante Avijan combining for 264 rushing yards and three touchdowns to cap an unlikely regular season where they were picked to finish 12th in 5A SIC.
