Kase Wynott, one of nation's leading scorers, records ridiculous triple double (video)

Lapwai (Idaho) senior Kase Wynott went off Friday for a state-record 68 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists in a victory over Genesee

Lapwai of Idaho forward Kase Wynott has made a career reputation as a pure scorer - a big reason why he is headed to Utah State.

But what he's done over the past 10 days has those around him speechless.

The owner of 18 triple-double performances - and one quadruple-double - Wynott had set a new bar Jan. 8 with his 57-point, 13-rebound, 11-assist showing against Logos, making 23 of 32 field-goal attempts.

The bar was raised Friday against Genesee - a career-high 68 points (on 29-of-38 shooting), 15 rebounds and 10 assists.

Wynott's 68 points is also a single-game state record, breaking the previous mark of 66 points, set by Dietrich's Alan Stoddard in 1987.

"It feels great, but at the end of the day, the most important thing to me is winning," Wynott told SBLive's Brandon Walton earlier this week. "So, I'm gonna just go out there and play, and whatever stats I get, I'm happy with.

But, of course, I like getting these huge stats."

On Friday, Wynott scored 20 points in the opening quarter, 19 in the second quarter, 17 in the third quarter - and 12 in the final quarter before being taken out with 21/2 minutes remaining.

"He's a Division I basketball player ... and once in a while, we tell him, 'Have fun and push yourself,'" Lapwai boys coach Zachary Eastman said. "When he pushes himself offensively and defensively, he is going to get stats like that.

"For me, it's the way he scores because he spreads it out - on rebounds and scoring inside and outside, then passing the ball and getting assists ... you lose track just how much he is scoring."

One of the reasons he was taken out Friday is so he could set Idaho's all-time scoring mark in front of his home fans Thursday against Clearwater Valley. He is six points away from the record - 2,589 points.

"I feel like I had confidence in myself from an early age. It's something my dad (Jeremiah) and I had talked about even before I got into high school," Wynott said. "So, it was always in the back of my mind. We knew I would have a chance, but we never knew for sure.

"And now that it's here and it's in reach, it's pretty insane."
