Week 5 of the 2023 Illinois high school football season gets underway this week with the games starting on Thursday and continuing through Saturday.

The action kicks off with a dozen games on Thursday night, including an exciting matchup between a pair of 3-1 teams in Class 3A.

Prosser and Kennedy will battle it out for the top spot in the Chicago Public, Blue-West league. Both teams are currently 2-0 in their division, which means the winner of this one will gain the upper hand in the division standings for the first time this season.

As usual, Friday will be the biggest day of the week with 22 teams from the Top 25 Illinois high school football rankings playing that night.

Four of those teams have a date with a fellow Top 25 squad.

No. 9 Joliet Catholic will hit the road to face off with No. 23 St. Francis in Wheaton, and No. 14 Batavia will host No. 25 Wheaton North

Week 5 concludes with more than 30 games on Saturday, three of which will feature a team in the Top 25.

After starting the year 1-2 with games against No. 3 Loyola Academy, St. Frances (Maryland), and Atascocita (Texas), No. 5 East St. Louis dominated formerly unbeaten Belleville East 48-0 in its first league game of the season last week.

The Flyers will look to make another statement in the Class 4A Southwestern division when they host O'Fallon on Saturday.
