Hersey's Thomas Mulder voted SBLive’s Illinois High School Athlete of the Week (10/16/2023)

Mulder received more than 66 percent of the votes

Congratulations to Hersey football player Thomas Mulder, who was voted SBLive's Illinois High School Athlete of the Week for Oct. 2-8.

He received 17,250 votes, which where more than 66 percent of the total votes.

Mulder, a junior, made two big defensive plays in Hersey's 42-7 win over Rolling Meadows. He had a 71-yard scoop-and-score touchdown and also returned an interception to the Rolling Meadows' 15-yard line to set up another score.

Jacobs football player Caden DuMelle finished second in the voting after receiving more than 19 percent of the votes.

Robert Battle, East St. Louis football

The Lindenwood commit completed seven of nine passes for 150 yards and three touchdowns in a 59-0 shutout of Alton.

Aiden Clark, Naperville Central football

The junior rushed 23 times for 191 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-0 shutout of DeKalb.

Matthew Conroy, St. Ignatius boys cross country

The senior won the Loyola Flight Night "A" race in a meet-record 14:54.

Jake Curry, Edwardsville football

In a 49-45 come-from-behind victory over Belleville East, the Southern Illinois commit rushed for three touchdowns and threw three touchdown passes – including the program-record 58th of his career.

Nicholas Day, Antioch football

In a 62-34 win against Grant, the senior scored six touchdowns and rushed for 147 yards on 24 carries.

Caden DuMelle, Jacobs football

The sophomore fullback carried 31 times for 302 yards and four touchdowns in a 41-14 win over Crystal Lake Central.

Darrion Dupree, Mount Carmel football

The Wisconsin commit ran for two touchdowns in a 21-9 win against Fenwick.

Kaylee Dwyer, Lincoln-Way West girls golf

The senior shot a 144 to earn medalist honors at the Class 2A state finals.

Bryce Erkman, Lake Zurich football

The sophomore intercepted two passes – including one in Lake Forest territory to set up a score – during a 43-0 win.

Izzy Hassebrock, Sacred Heart-Griffin girls golf

The junior shot a 147 to earn medalist honors at the Class 1A state finals.

Thomas Hereau, River Ridge boys golf

The senior shot a 143 to win the Class 1A state championship.

Dierre Hill Jr., Althoff football

The junior rushed for three touchdowns – from 3, 39, and 63 yards – in a 41-22 win against Breese Mater Dei.

Jordan Kemp, Lockport football

The senior rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns during a 41-16 victory over Andrew.

Regan Konen, Marmion boys golf

The junior shot a 141 to win the Class 2A state championship.

Logan Malachuk, Nazareth football

The junior threw four touchdown passes and rallied Nazareth back from an 11-point, third-quarter deficit in a 31-30 win over Brother Rice.

Christian Martyn, Oswego East football

In a 14-13 come-from-behind victory over West Aurora, the senior ran for 249 yards on 40 carries and scored the decisive touchdown with 2:11 left.

Nathan Maul, Minooka football

The senior threw two touchdown passes and rushed for another score in a 27-3 win against Plainfield North.

Will Nahza, Barrington football

In a 35-31 victory over Hoffman Estates, the senior intercepted a pass and finished with nine catches for 135 yards and a touchdown.

Navonte Nesbit, Mount Vernon football

The senior ran six times for 207 yards and six TDs in a 62-0 shutout of Granite City.

Teyion Oriental, Glenbard West football

The junior quarterback finished with 100 yards and a TD on 21 carries, and completed all three of his pass attempts for 38 yards and a score.

Walker Owens, Wheaton North football

The senior caught a touchdown pass and ran for three scores in a 25-24 win against Geneva.

Ethan Plumb, St. Charles North football

The junior completed nine of 17 passes for 214 yards and three first-half touchdowns in a 41-0 shutout of Glenbard North.

Quinn Schambow, Libertyville football

The junior threw for 418 yards and six touchdowns in a 41-0 shutout of Mundelein.

Nicolas Simon, Conant boys golf

The senior shot a 143 to take medalist honors at the Class 3A state finals.

Lovell Smith, Simeon football

The sophomore ran for 81 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries during a 16-14 win over Phillips.

Scout Storms, Barrington girls cross country

The junior won the Loyola Flight Night championship race in a meet-record 17:23.

Jordan Suggs, O'Fallon football

The senior picked off two passes and tied the program career mark of 10 interceptions in a 56-7 win over Belleville West.

Chris Walleck, Roxana football

In a 52-28 victory over Breese Central, the senior threw three touchdown passes, including two in a 25-point second quarter.

Aiden Welch, Althoff boys soccer

Welch had a big week with six goals, including a hat trick against Gibault, and an assist as the Crusaders picked up wins in all three of their games. A senior, Welch leads Althoff with 19 goals.
