Check out this week's Illinois boys basketball Power 25

The top three teams hold their positions heading into the final week of the season, but there's movement elsewhere.

Peoria Richwoods jumps into the top 25 after eliminating Kankakee and defending Class 3A champ Metamora. Palatine and Mt. Zion also join the rankings.

Illinois high school boys basketball rankings

March 4, 2024

1. Curie (31-2)

Previous rank: 1

UIC recruit Carlos Harris III scored 47 points and Will Gonzalez had 26 as the Condors beat Young 61-49 and Simeon 66-59 to win the Class 4A Riverside-Brookfield Sectional. 

2. Homewood-Flossmoor (30-4)

Previous rank: 2

The Vikings edged Joliet West 68-66 in overtime and beat Bloom 61-50 to win the Class 4A Rich Sectional. Mac Hagemaster had a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds with five blocks against Joliet West. Bryce Heard scored 21 with eight rebounds against Joliet West and had 19 points vs. Bloom.

3. Thornton (29-4)

Illinois recruit Morez Johnson scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Chase Abraham also had 17 points as the host Wildcats beat Brother Rice 61-54 in a Class 3A sectional final. Johnson also had a double-double of 21 points and 17 rebounds in a 77-47 semifinal victory against Evergreen Park.

4. DePaul Prep (32-2)

The Rams continued their defensive dominance at the Class 3A St. Viator Sectional, eliminating Niles Notre Dame 46-16 and Lake Forest 38-21.

5. Downers Grove North (31-4)

Previous rank: 13

The Trojans have won 14 in a row after beating Waubonsie Valley 41-28 and Bolingbrook 69-52 to capture the Class 4A East Aurora Sectional. Princeton commit Jack Stanton scored 23 points against Bolingbrook.

6. Warren (31-4)

Previous rank: 12

The Blue Devils' winning streak is at 11 after they beat DeKalb 70-57 and McHenry 70-38 to capture the Class 4A Rockford Guilford Sectional. Freshman Jaxon Davis had 39 points in the two victories.

7. Mount Carmel (30-5)

Previous rank: 9

The Caravan came from 13 points down in the second half to edge Hyde Park 53-50 and downed De La Salle 73-57 to win the Class 3A Hinsdale South Sectional. Northwestern recruit Angelo Ciaravino scored 34 points and grabbed eight rebounds against De La Salle, while Cam Thomas had 23 points and six rebounds.

8. Normal (30-5)

Jaheem Webber's dunk after a Quincy turnover gave the Ironmen a stirring 44-43 win in the Class 4A Pekin Sectional final. Normal advanced with a 61-44 win against Moline.

9. Peoria Richwoods (28-4)

Previous rank: NR

The Knights have won 14 in a row after downing Kankakee 70-66 and beating defending Class 3A champ Metamora 61-55 to win the Pontiac Sectional. Rutgers recruit Lathan Sommerville had 30 points against Kankakee and 22 vs. Metamora.

10. New Trier (28-7)

The Trevians won the Class 4A Maine South Sectional, slipping past Loyola 36-32 and Glenbrook North 46-43. Sophomore Christopher Kirkpatrick scored New Trier's last 10 points against Glenbrook North, including the decisive 3-pointer.

11. Glenbrook North (25-8)

Previous rank: 22

The Spartans lost 46-43 to New Trier on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer in the Class 4A Maine South Sectional final. They advanced by ousting district rival Glenbrook South 51-40.

12. Bloom (19-10)

Previous rank: 21

The Blazing Trojans beat Marist 56-45 behind Elijah Lovemore's 18 points before falling 61-50 to Homewood-Flossmoor at the Class 4A Rich Sectional.

13. Bolingbrook (27-5)

Previous rank: 7

The Raiders' nine-game winning streak was snapped with a 69-52 loss to Downers Grove North in the Class 4A East Aurora Sectional final. Earlier, Bolingbrook ousted Benet 65-59. Freshman Davion Thompson scored 16 against Benet and JT Pettigrew had 16 vs. Downers North.

14. Quincy (31-4)

The Blue Devils' season ended in heartbreaking fashion with a 44-43 loss to Normal in the Class 4A Pekin Sectional final. Quincy had advanced with a 74-46 romp past Belleville West.

15. Metamora (30-5)

Previous rank: 4

The Redbirds' Class 3A title defense and 17-game winning streak ended with a 61-55 loss to Peoria Richwoods in the Pontiac Sectional final. Earlier, they advanced with a 69-37 victory against LaSalle-Peru.

16. Loyola Academy (27-7)

Previous rank: 19

The Ramblers' season ended with a 36-32 loss to New Trier in the Class 4A Maine South Sectional final.

17. Brother Rice (31-4)

Previous rank: 6

The Crusaders' season ended with a 61-54 loss to the hosts in the Class 3A Thornton Sectional final. They advanced with a 71-56 win against Marian Catholic. Marcos Gonzales scored 17 against Thornton and 21 vs. Marian.

18. Marist (29-5)

Previous rank: 14

Bloom snapped the RedHawks' 13-game winning streak, prevailing 56-45 in the Class 4A Rich Sectional semifinals.

19. Kankakee (27-4)

Previous rank: 20

Larenz Walters scored 23 points and Damontae May had 20, but the Kays lost 70-66 to Peoria Richwoods in the Class 3A Pontiac Sectional semifinals.

20. Waubonsie Valley (27-3)

Previous rank: 15

The Warriors fell 41-28 to Downers Grove North in the Class 4A East Aurora Sectional semifinals.

21. Benet (27-7)

Previous rank: 10

Bolingbrook eliminated the Redwings, winning 65-59 in the Class 4A East Aurora Sectional semifinals. Gabe Sularski scored a game-high 25 for Benet.

22. Palatine (27-8)

Previous rank: NR

The Pirates won the Class 4A Elgin Sectional, beating Lake Zurich 53-39 and Stevenson 46-38.

23. De La Salle (23-12)

Previous rank: 23

The Meteors beat Lindblom 72-55 before falling 73-57 to Mount Carmel at the Class 3A Hinsdale South Sectional.

24. Centralia (32-2)

Previous rank: 25

The Orphans have won 11 in a row after beating Highland 60-52 and Mount Vernon 49-33 to capture the Class 3A Triad Sectional.

25. Mt. Zion (34-1)

Previous rank: NR

The Braves' lone loss was 72-69 to defending Class 3A champ Metamora. They've won 16 in a row after beating Rochester 58-51 and Decatur MacArthur 61-48 to win the Class 3A Lincoln Sectional.
