It was a week of close calls and near-upsets for several of the state's top teams, but they managed to prevail.

Meanwhile, unbeaten Evansville Reitz, the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference champ, enters the Power 25 this week.

1. Ben Davis (7-1)

Previous rank: 1 Last week: Def. Lawrence Central 26-23

Ben Rudolph kicked four field goals to help the Giants hold off Lawrence Central's upset bid. The win clinched their 13th Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference title since 1996.

2. Center Grove (7-1)

Previous rank: 2 Last week: Def. Lawrence North 43-26

The Trojans rallied from a 26-22 fourth-quarter deficit, scoring three TDs – two on Matthew Yoder runs – in less than seven minutes to avoid the upset.

Next game: vs. No. 15 Cathedral at Butler Bowl, Oct. 13

3. Brownsburg (8-0)

Previous rank: 3 Last week: Def. Noblesville 27-22

Garrett Sherrell scored three touchdowns – including the game-winner in the fourth quarter to erase a 22-21 deficit – and has seven in the past two weeks for the Bulldogs.

Next game: vs. No. 6 Hamilton Southeastern, Oct. 13

4. Crown Point (8-0)

Previous rank: 4 Last week: Def. Chesterton 21-7

Larry Ellison ran 39 times for 170 yards and two TDs for the Bulldogs. They have won 17 straight regular-season games overall, 14 consecutive regular-season road games and 13 straight Duneland Athletic Conference games.

5. Westfield (7-1)

Previous rank: 5 Last week: Def. Fishers 28-14

Jackson Gilbert threw two touchdown passes as the Shamrocks won in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference.

6. Hamilton Southeastern (7-1)

Previous rank: 6 Last week: Def. Noblesville 19-3

The Royals ran for a pair of second-half TDs en route to the Hoosier Crossroads Conference win. Up next, a big test vs. unbeaten Brownsburg with the league title on the line. Brownsburg is 6-0 in the HCC, a game ahead of Hamilton Southeastern and Westfield.

7. Fort Wayne Carroll (6-2)

Previous rank: 7 Last week: Def. Fort Wayne Northrop 35-6

The Chargers opened a 35-0 halftime lead and coasted to the Summit Athletic Conference win. They're tied with Snider for the A Division lead heading into the final week of the regular season.

8. Penn (7-1)

Previous rank: 10 Last week: Def. New Prairie 22-0

The Kingsmen pitched their fourth shutout in five games en route to clinching a share of the Northern Indiana Conference East-West Division title. Nolan McCullough ran for 113 yards and passed for 94 more for Penn.

9. Bishop Chatard (8-0)

Previous rank: 11 Last week: Def. Indianapolis Shortridge 42-6

The Trojans opened a 42-0 halftime lead and cruised to the non-conference win.

10. Carmel (5-3)

Previous rank: 9 Last week: Def. Warren Central 17-14

Anthony Coellner ran for one score and passed for another for the Greyhounds, who rallied from a 14-7 fourth-quarter deficit. Joshua Placzek's late 39-yard field goal broke a 14-14 tie.

11. Valparaiso (6-2)

The Vikings led 21-0 at halftime and continued to pull away for the Duneland Athletic Conference win.

12. Fort Wayne Snider (7-1)

Previous rank: 13 Last week: Def. Fort Wayne Dwenger 33-13

The Panthers fell behind Dwenger 7-0 early. But they took control in the Summit Athletic Conference A Division game thanks to three TDs by Uriah Buchanan.

13. Fishers (5-3)

Khobie Martin and Millen McCartney had touchdowns for the Tigers in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference loss.

14. Bloomington North (8-0)

Previous rank: 14 Last week: Def. Columbus North 38-35

Dash King passed for 260 yards and three TDs, and ran for 84 yards and two more scores as the Cougars held on after leading 38-15 after three quarters.

15. Cathedral (6-2)

Previous rank: 16 Last week: Def. Roncalli 42-0

Colorado commit Danny O'Neil rushed for three TDs and passed for a fourth to power the Fighting Irish.

16. Bloomington South (7-1)

Previous rank: 16 Last week: Def. Brebeuf 51-26

Jarrin Alley threw for two first-half TDs as the Panthers opened a 30-13 lead en route to the road win.

Previous rank: 17 Last week: Def. Greensburg 62-0

The Trojans have won 14 in a row, including five straight shutouts, and they have allowed just 42 points this season.

Quarterback Dontae Pope ran for three TDs in the Duneland Athletic Conference win.

Novell Miller and Brady Fisher each scored two touchdowns as the Cavemen remained tied with Northridge and Warsaw for the Northern Lakes Conference lead at 5-1.

20. Lawrence North (5-3)

Montez Jones passed for three TDs and ran for another as the Wildcats put a scare into the No. 2 Trojans, leading 26-22 in the fourth quarter.

21. West Lafayette Harrison (7-1)

The Raiders won their sixth in a row and clinched a share of the North Central Conference title.

22. Decatur Central (6-2)

Previous rank: 23 Last week: Def. Perry Meridian 14-7

The wild Mid-State Conference race – four teams are tied for the lead at 4-2 – will go down to the last night of the regular season. Decatur Central hosts Franklin and Plainfield hosts Martinsville, with the two winners sharing the league title.

Adam Sloop ran for a pair of first-half TDs as the Raiders opened a 28-7 lead on the way to the Northern Lakes Conference win.

Grayson Thomas rushed for 206 yards and five TDs as the Dragons clinched a share of the Hoosier Heritage Conference title. They've won six in a row.

The Panthers have allowed just 65 points all season and gave up more than seven points only twice.
