Chatard wins back-to-back Indiana state titles

Three teams captured Indiana high school football state championships on Friday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis and three more champions were crowned on Saturday. 

Here is a quick look at the results:

CLASS 1A CHAMPIONSHIP  

Indianapolis Lutheran 35, Adams Central 28

Indianapolis Lutheran held off a tough Adams Central team to bring home its third consecutive state title. Junior quarterback Jackson Willis shined as the lefty completed 13 of 18 passes for 226 yards and four touchdowns to lift the Saints to a seven-point victory. 

Lutheran (13-0) got 145 yards rushing and a touchdown from Braydon Hall, while DeVaun Jones and LJ Ward each caught two touchdown passes.

Jack Hamilton accounted for four touchdowns for Adams Central (14-1). The quarterback completed 16 of 24 passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns (with one interception) and also ran for 50 yards and a score.  

CLASS 2A CHAMPIONSHIP

Bishop Luers 40, North Posey 3

Bishop Luers brought home its 12th state title in its history after a dominant 40-3 victory over North Posey on Saturday. 

Mickey Daring rushed for 53 yards and two scores, Gio Jimenez ran for 98 yards and TD and Kohen McKenzie threw for 126 yards and three touchdowns – to three different receivers – to lead a balanced offensive attack. 

Bishop Luers (12-3) led 14-3 at halftime before pulling away with four touchdowns in the second half – two in each quarter.

Jed Galvin led North Posey (13-2) with 65 rushing yards and five receptions for 50 yards.

CLASS 3A CHAMPIONSHIP 

Bishop Chatard 35, Heritage Hills 7

Chatard rolled to its second consecutive 3A state title, adding its record 17th state championship in school history. 

Riley Kinnett led the charge for Chatard (15-0) with 158 yards and four touchdowns on 25 carries. Aidea Artega completed 18 of 26 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown. 

Tyler Ruxer caught five passes for 72 yards and a touchdown for Heritage Hills (13-2).

CLASS 4A CHAMPIONSHIP

East Central 42, NorthWood 14

East Central finished off its perfect season after a dominant 42-14 victory over NorthWood to repeat as 4A champions. 

Josh Ringer capped off his storied high school career with 251 yards and three touchdowns on 34 carries to pace the Trojans .

Connor Kuhn, Brayden Rouse and Carson Pieczonka led a stingy East Central (15-0) effort on defense. Kuhn and Rouse had 10 tackles apiece and Pieczonka snagged two interceptions. 

NiTareon Tuggle led NorthWood (12-3) offensively. The Georgia pledge caught nine passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns.

CLASS 5A CHAMPIONSHIP 

Fort Wayne Snider 33, Decatur Central 6

Fort Wayne Snider was able to pull away in the fourth quarter in the 5A state championship to bring home a victory over Decatur Central. 

The Panthers led 7-6 at halftime and then pulled away in the second half, including rattling off 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. 

Uriah Buchanan was a difference maker for Snider (13-1) as he finished with 261 total yards (235 rushing, 26 receiving) and three touchdowns, including two in the fourth quarter.

Marvin Campbell Jr. had five tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery for Decatur Central (11-3).

CLASS 6A CHAMPIONSHIP

Ben Davis 38, Crown Point 10

Ben Davis rolled to a 6A title victory with a 38-10 win over Crown Point on Saturday night, the Giants' 10th state title but first since 2017.

Alijah Price, Zane Skibinski and Mark Zackery fueled the Ben Davis (13-1) offense as QB Thomas Gotkowski threw for 152 yards and two TDs (with one interception).

Price ran for 141 yards and two scores and caught four passes for 25 yards. Skibinski caught four passes for 73 yards and two TDs and Zackery finished with six catches for 86 yards (both team-highs) and a touchdown. 

The Giants' defense, led by Nylan Brown, Toreeq Oyesigi and Nehemiah Dau, recorded four interceptions – from four different players – and three sacks. 

Brown finished with a team-high 10 tackles. Oyesigi had seven tackles and an interception. Dau recorded six tackles, two sacks and forced a fumble. 

Crown Point (13-1) quarterback Noah Ehrlich threw for 217 yards but was intercepted four times. Nick Soley caught four passes for 106 yards. Larry Ellison ran for 89 yards on 21 carries.
