This week’s Iowa prep girls basketball rankings

Johnston leads the final regular-season rankings, as excitement builds for the postseason and the road to Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines and the state tournament. 

1. Johnston (20-1)

Dragons could see a young and talented No. 19 Sioux City East team in a 5A regional final.

2. Pleasant Valley (21-0)

Spartans finished as the lone 5A squad to complete an unbeaten regular season.

3. Waterloo West (20-1)

Wahawks could meet a dangerous, battle-tested Waukee (10-11) club in a 5A regional final.

4. West Des Moines Dowling (17-4)

A quality Iowa City West (15-6) team could be the Maroons’ biggest regional challenger.

5. Algona Garrigan (20-1)

Huge win to close the regular season, beating reigning 2A champ Dike-New Hartford 62-46 behind 29 points, 19 rebounds, five blocks and four steals from Audi Crooks.

6. Estherville-Lincoln Central (22-0)

Midgets opened 3A regional play with a 71-12 win over Eagle Grove.

7. Ankeny Centennial (15-6)

An opening-round win would send the Jaguars against Linn-Mar (14-7) or Bettendorf (11-10) in a 5A regional final.

8. Southeast Polk (13-7)

Rams could face Iowa City Liberty (13-7) in a 5A regional final.

9. West Des Moines Valley (13-8)

Tigers will find out if their rugged schedule pays off in a 5A regional that includes dangerous Cedar Falls (14-6).

10. Newell-Fonda (19-2)

AGWSR (21-1) and Ankeny Christian (19-2) appear to be the biggest obstacles to another 1A state banner for the Mustangs.

11. Dike-New Hartford (20-1)

Wolverines only trailed Garrigan by six after three quarters in their showdown.

12. Sioux City Heelan (19-2)

Crusaders take a 19-game win streak into their regular-season finale Monday against Lewis Central.

13. Davenport North (19-2)

A first-round win will send Wildcats into a 5A regional final against either No. 21 Ankeny (11-10) or Waukee Northwest (8-12).

14. Central Lyon (19-0)

Lions earned a big 57-55 OT win over Sioux Center last week, getting 15 each from Dionne Jansma and Addison Klosterbuer.

15. Dallas Center-Grimes (18-3)

Mustangs could get a test out of the gate against an improving Carroll (10-11) club.

16. North Linn (19-1)

Springville (18-4) could challenge North Linn’s supremacy in Region 3 of 1A. North Linn won their most recent meeting by 15.

17. North Polk (19-2)

After losing to Waverly-Shell Rock in last year’s 4A regional final, Comets hope to take final step this year.

18. Ballard (16-3)

Bombers could meet Carlisle (14-7) in a 4A regional final. They split during the regular season.

19. Sioux City East (16-4)

Black Raiders closed the regular season with a 54-50 win over Spencer.

20. Solon (20-2)

Spartans opened 3A regional play with a 75-31 win over Fairfield.

21. Ankeny (11-10)

Hawks own 11- and 7-point wins over first-round 5A regional opponent Waukee Northwest.

22. West Lyon (17-5)

Wildcats meet Unity Christian (17-5) Wednesday in what should be a dandy 3A regional semifinal.

23. Sibley-Ocheyedan (18-3)

Generals ended the regular season with a nine-point loss to No. 22 West Lyon.

24. Decorah (19-2)

Mason City (13-6) or Waverly-Shell Rock (15-6) could give the Vikings a challenge in a potential regional final.

25. Sioux Center (16-5)

Warriors are in same quality 3A region with Unity Christian and West Lyon.
