Iowa high school wrestling state tournament, Day 3 live updates (2/16/2024)
Two days remain in the Iowa high school wrestling state tournament.
All those sitting in semifinal brackets are hoping to live for one more day to wrestle in Saturday night's state finals matches.
We will keep you updated all day Friday as wrestlers from all classes punch their tickets to the finals.

Class 1A - 285
Columbus Catholic's Mason Knipp sored all of his points in the third period to eke out a 3-2 decision over Nodaway Valley's Trenton Warner. Knipp's late takedown sealed the win.
West Branch's Logan Wright scored a 3-1 decision over East Buchanan's Cody Fox.
Class 1A -215
Maquoketa Valley's Brady Davis take a 5-1 decision over West Hancock's David Smith. Davis meets Nodaway Valley's Ashton Honnold, who earned a 5-2 decision over I-35's Eli Green.
Class 1A- 190
We may have spoken too soon. WACO's Louden Huisenga and Maquoketa Valley treated fans at The Well to another thriller. Huisenga pulled out a 5-3 overtime decision with a late takedown.
North Butler's Makade Bloker recorded a 5-1 decision over Don Bosco's Landon Fernandez.
Class 1A - 175
In one of the more exciting matches of the night, Kaiden Knaack of Don Bosco earned a 6-4 decision over Jesup's Kile Bucknell in overtime. Bucknell forced OT after pulling off an escape in the third period to tie the match, 4-4. As time ticked down in OT, Kaack sealed the win with a takedown.
Emmetsburg's Jace Nelson-Brown rolled to a 10-1 decision over Titus Evans of Nashua-Plainfield.
Class 1A - 165
Colfax-Mingo's John McGill edges Clay Wilgenbusch with a 10-8 decision. He meets Underwood's Maddox Nelson for the title. Nelson earned a 5-2 decision over Ryan Stiles of Earlham.

Don Bosco's Kyler Knack scored a fall at 2:48 over AHSTW's Kayden Baxter.
West Hancock's Kellen Smith rolled to an 11-2 decision over Wapsie Valley's Kanen Decker.
Class 1A - 150
Starmont sophomore Keaton Moeller (45-1) took a 10-3 decision over Alburnett's Reece Klosterman.
Treynor's Danny Kinsella blanked Shenandoah's Jacob McGill with a 7-0 decision.
Class 1A - 144
Logan-Magnolia's Corbin Reisz ran past Lisbon's Tiernan Boots with a 9-1 decision. Reisz is now 46-0. He meets Denver's Boden White, who took a 3-1 decision over Colin Holm of South Winneshiek.
Class 1A - 138
Underwood's Blake Allen took a 7-3 decision over Wilton's Gabriel Baker. Allen improved to 20-0 and faces West Hancock sophomore Teague Smith, who recorded a 4-1 decision over Don Bosco's Ethan Christofer, in the finals.
Class 1A - 132
North-Butler Clarksvile's Tanner Arjes scored a 12-4 decision over Arkon-Westfield's Jadyn Friedrichs to move to the finals with a 46-0 record.
Don Bosco freshman Dawson Younglut will wrestle in his first championship match after gettng by senior Brody Brisker with a 3-1 decison that he sealed with a takedown late in the match.
Class 1A - 126
West Sioux's Jesse Lewis had no problem moving to 45-0 with a pin in :57 of Alburnett's Tayten Coufal.
It was a different story for Cascade's Brock Morris, who trailed G-T/R-A's Caleb Swedin 3-2, before scoring late in the match.
Class 1A - 120
Alburnett's Rowdy Neighbor is now 52-2 after taking a 7-1 decision over AC/GC's Tegan Saybaugh.
Akron-Westfield's Cael Morrow is now 38-2 after holding off Baxter's Ayden Beck. Morrow raced to a 6-0 lead and finished with the 8-4 decision.
Class 1A - 113
The 113 final features a pair of dominant underclassmen. Wilton sophomore Mason Shirk took a 7-1 decision over Earlham's Dallas Canoyer to advance to the finals. He is now 49-1.
Denver freshman Gavin Lanaders is now 45-0 after surviving a 3-0 decision of Cooper Hinz of Jesup.
Class 1A - 106
Don Bosco's Hayden Schwab rolls past Atlee Dewittt of Burnett with a 10 decision. He runs his unbeaten streak to 37.
Wilton's Wilton's Liam Adlfinger scored 6-0 decision over Lisbon's Wesley Sadler.

Class 3A - 285
Ames senior and Iowa State signee Daniel Hererra rolls past Southeast Polk's Carter Martinson for a 15-5 decision. The California transfer takes on Waverly-Shell Rock's Caden Wetherell. He took a 3-2 decision over Cedar Falls' Drew Campbell.
Class 3A - 215
Fort Dodge sophomore Dreshaun Ross makes quick work of Vincenzo Lima getting the pin at the 1:32 mark. He will meet Southeast Polk's Holden Hansen, who hung on for 1-0 decision over West Des Moines Valley's Andrew Price.
Class 3A - 190
Southeast Polk's Brent Slade rolls to an easy 16-2 decision over Urbandale's Cain Tigges. Slade will meet Ames' Danarii Mickel, who took a 2-1 decision over Bettendorf's Brayden Koester.
Class 3A - 175
Carlisle's Asa Hemsted pulls off the upset of the tournament scoring five points in the third period to take a 7-5 decision over three-time defending champion Maximus Magayna of Waterloo East. Magayna entered the match undefeated.
Fort Dodge's Demarion Ross had little trouble in his 6-1 decision over Indianola's Dax Claatt.
Class 3A - 165
Two great matches involving highly ranked wrestlers. Urbandale's Gabe Carver wrestled part of his match with only one contact, but Carver, who is ranked No. 3, beat No. 2-ranked Lincoln Jipp of Bettendorf, 5-2.
No. 1-ranked Jacob Helgeson of Johnston pulled away late to beat Waverly-Shell Rock's Ethan Bibler, 6-1. Helegson is the defending state champion.

Class 3A - 157
Both of these semifinal matches were affected by injuries. Lin-Mar's Grant Kress couldn't continue in his match against Iowa City High's Kael Voinovich.
'Southeast Polk's Abe Bushong got shaken up and had to take injury time in his 7-5 loss to Carlisle's Jaxon Miller.
Class 3A - 150
Southeast Polk's Logan Trenary pinned Nolan Fellers of Bondurant-Farrar in 4:18 to advance to meet Waverly Shell-Rock's Bas Diaz in the finals. Diaz picked up a 7-2 decision over Ankeny Centennial's Lucaas Bruh.
Class 3A - 144
Lin-Mar's Kane Naatktgeboren takes a 15-5 decision over Ankeny's Ben Hansen in one semi.
West Des Moines Valley's JahKari Clark punches his ticket to the finals with a 3-2 decision over Ankeny Centennial's Maximus Dhabolt.
Class 3A - 138
Bettendorf's Cody Trevino becomes the first Bettendorf wrestler this afternoon not to make the finals. He drops a narrow 6-5 decision to Waukee Northwest's Carter Freeman.
Fort Dodge’s Koy Davidson joins Freeman in the finals with a 6-1 decision over Iowa City High's Kael Kurtz.
Class 3A - 132
A nail-biter in one semi as Bettendorf's Jayce Luna wins by 3-2 decision over Carlisle's Ryan Rider. Iowa City High's Cale Seaton cruised to a 7-2 decision over Bondurant-Farrar's Connor Fiser to secure his spot in the finals with Luna.
Class 3A - 126
Koufax Christensen of Waukee Northwest won an 11-3 major decision over Waverly-Shell Rock's Ryker Graffa. Bettendorf advances another wrestler to the finals as Timothy Koester beat Riggins 8-1.
Class 3A - 120
Carter Pearson of Southeast Polk (38-0) stays perfect with a 9-1 major decision over Ankeny Centennial's Cody Vandermark.
Bettendorf's Jake Knight joins Pearson with a 12-6 semiffinal decision over Dru Ayala.
Class 3A - 113
Tyler Harper of Norwalk (39-0) stays perfect with a pin of Ankeny's Isaac Wignall. Iowa City West's Alexander Pierce moved on to the finals with a 5-2 deision over Cale VAndermark of Ankeny Centennial.
Class 3A - 106
Southeast Poilk's Nico DeSalvo earns a 7-4 decision over Cedar Rapids Prairie's Dylan Munson. He will be joined in the finals by Weston Porter of lewis Central. He won an 8-6 decision over Carew Christensen of Waukee Northwest.

Osage’s Mac Muller stays unbeaten (51-0) with a pin of Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s Carter Heilskov at the 7:17 mark.
Columbus/WMU’s Russel Coil (48-1) took a 3-1 decision over Albia’s Paul Ballard handing him his first loss of the season at 39-1,
Class 2A - 215
NH/TV's Braden McShane (42-1) takes a 3-2 decision win over Ballard's Henry Christensen. Christensen drops to 39-3. McShane is joined in the finals by South Tama County’s Gavin Bridgewater (44-1),
He took a 5-2 decision over Glenwood’s Mason Koehler.
Class 2A - 190
Sheldon/South O`Brien’s Jarrett Roos stays unbeaten at 27-0 with a 10-5 decision over Perry’s Kain Killmer in one semi.
North Polk’s Ben Bryant takes a 3-1 decision win over Decorah’s Thomas Sexton to land in the finals with Roos.
Class 2A - 175
Anamosa's Austin Scranton stays unbeaten (48-0) with an 8-6 decision over West Deleware's Brent Yonkovic (40-3) in one semi.
Hesston Johnson of Roland Story handed Knoxville's Daniel Gorskikh (34-1) his first loss of the season with a 10-3 decision.
Class 2A - 165
Humboldt's Broedy Hendricks topples No. 1 Max Gast of Osage. Hedricks scored the 6-0 decision over Gast, who finishes 13-2. Hendricks moves to 46-2. Dubuque Wahlert's Colin Young took a majority decision over Roland-Story's Logan Powers. Young enters the final with Hendricks with a 19-0 mark.

Tucker Stangel is 53-0 after a pinning Green County's Gavin Scheuermann. Sergeant Bluff-Luton’s Bo Koedam ran away wiith a 7-0 decision over NH/TV's Karson Kolbet. Koedam enters tomorrow's finals with a 49-2 record.
Class 2A - 150
Garner-Hayfield/Ventura's Lucaas Kral took a 7-4 decision over Huston Scranton of Anamosa. Kral is now 47-2. He faces Union's Caleb Olson (46-1), who beat Algona's Tate Slagle, 3-1, in the other semi.
Class 2A - 144
Anderson of Kittelson is still undefeated at 44-0 with a pin of PCM's Tucker Wheeler in one semi. He will face Central DeWitt's Roye Butt in the finals. Butt is now 20-3 with a 6-3 decision over Tyler Wieland of Independence. Class 2A -138

Osage's Blake Fox (49-1) hangs on for a 2-1 win over Assumption's Cadyn Wild in one semi. In another close semi, Mount Vernon's Jase Jaspers moves to 39-3 with a 2-1 tie-breaker over Jordan Schmidt of Solon.
Class 2A - 132
Burlington Notre Dame’s Kaiden Dietzenbach beat Decorah’s Mason Avila, 7-2, in a semifinal match.
Roland-Story’s Kade Blume scored a 5-2 tie-breaker over Glenwood’s Matt Beem. That was Beem's first loss of the season.
That sets up a final between Dietzenbach (30-1) and Blume (39-0)
Class 2A - 126
Jace Hedeman of Union is now 44-1 with an 8-1 decision over over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Freemont’s Landen Davis. in one semifinal Davis finishes 35-2.
The final should be a dandy as Webster Citys' Carson Doolittle moves to 42-0 with a majority decisoni over South Tama County's Amare Chavez in the other semi.
Class 2A - 120
Eddyville-Blakesburg-Freemont’s Gage Spurgeon scores a 6-4 decision over Davis County's Emmitt Newton. Spurgeon runs his record to 37-1 and faces West Lyon's Ryan Bahnson in the finals. Bahnson held off Crestwood Cresco's Carter Schmauss, 2-1. Bahnson jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first period, and then Schmauss threatened in the third with the one point.

Brayden Bohnsack (Union) upends Carter West (Burlington Notre Dame) 8-3 in one semifinal. He will face Webster City standout Linden Phetxoumphone in the finals. He scored a dominating 12-2 win over John Gonzalez of West Marshall.
Class 2A - 106
Mount Vernon senior Klayten Perreault moves to 45-0 and a state finals berth with a 3-0 semifinal decision over Ballard's Easton Enyeart. Perreault faces Cael McCabe of Fairfield who advanced with an 8-3 semifinal win over Urijah Corter of Nevada.
