Former Calvary Baptist (Louisiana) QB Peyton Houston transfers to Evangel Christian

Highly recruited freshman won't be eligible to play for the Eagles until 2024 season

One of the top high school freshman quarterbacks in the country has a new school.

Peyton Houston, who recently left Calvary Baptist in Shreveport, La., has now transferred to another school in the city, Evangel Christian.

The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate reported that Houston has already started practicing with the Eagles. However, due to Louisiana High School Athletic Association transfer rules, he won’t be eligible to play at Evangel until Week 3 of the 2024 season.

“This young man is so extraordinary in every way,” Evangel coach Denny Duron said in an interview with the Advocate. “He fits our culture perfectly and of course he is extremely talented.”

Houston played in Calvary Baptist’s previous game, a 61-27 win against Captain Shreve on Sept. 7, which included throwing a touchdown pass, but Houston left Calvary the following day.

He had been backing up junior Abram Wardell, who threw for 310 yards and four TDs in the win against Captain Shreve as the Cavaliers moved their record to 2-0. Houston was 7-of-12 passing for 82 yards and two TDs this season for the Cavaliers.

In addition, Houston is already one of the more sought-after quarterbacks in the country, already receiving several offers from Division I schools including Ole Miss, Texas Tech and Mississippi State.

Evangel is currently 1-1 on the season, having defeated Mansfield after dropping a one-point decision to Neville. The Eagles’ current starting quarterback is Peyton Fulghum, a senior.
