Louisiana's Prep Classic high school football championship games now set
A total of 16 high school football teams across Louisiana will now make the trip to New Orleans this week in hopes of seeing dreams realized.
The schedule for the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Prep Classic has been set. These games will take place Thursday, Dec. 7, through Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Caesars Superdome.
Thursday's opening game will be the Division IV select title game, between No. 5 seed Riverside Academy and No. 2 seed Southern Lab. That will kick off at 3:30 p.m.
Then in the final game on Thursday, No. 4 Haynesville faces No. 3 and the defending Division IV non-select champion in Oak Grove in the Division IV non-select championship game at 7 p.m.
Friday will begin two straight days of three title games, starting at noon with the Division II non-select title game between No. 12 seed Opelousas against No. 2 seed Cecilia. Then at 3:30 p.m., No. 4 Union Parish faces No. 3 St. James for the Division III non-select title game, while at 7 p.m., No. 8 Acadiana takes on No. 3 Catholic-Baton Rouge for the Division I select championship.
At noon on Saturday, a highly anticipated rematch takes place for the Division II select title, as No. 3 Lafayette Christian faces top-seeded St. Thomas More. Last season, the Cougars outlasted the Knights in a thriller, 52-48.
The only matchup this weekend between the top two seeds takes place in the Division III select championship game at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, as No. 2 Calvary Baptist takes on top seed St. Charles Catholic, the defending Division III select champion, and the Comets will be seeking their third straight title.
Then the final game of the Prep Classic is set for 7 p.m. Saturday for the Division I non-select title. No. 6 Zachary, which won state two years ago, faces No. 1 Ruston, which lost to Destrehan for the championship last season.
