Ponchatoula junior Alyssa Hillard voted SBLive's Louisiana High School Athlete of the Week

Hillard has big scoring night despite loss, later scores her 1,000th career point

Alyssa Hillard has been a scoring machine lately for the Ponchatoula girls basketball squad. 

On Jan. 20, despite a 65-58 loss to Southern Lab, Hillard — a junior guard for the Lady Wave — scored 26 points to go with eight rebounds, three steals and two assists. That loss dropped Ponchatoula — last season's Division I non-select runner-up — to 15-9 and No. 15 in the Division I non-select power ratings.

Then on Jan. 23, Hillard scored the 1,000th point in her career in the Lady Wave's 61-59 win against Northshore. She had 25 points in the win.

For her efforts, Hillard was voted the SBLive Louisiana High School Athlete of the Week for Jan. 15-21.
