Catholic Central boys hockey: undefeated and looking to repeat


Eli Vanderveen, Hudsonville High School

Hudsonville senior Eli Vanderveen had a dominant performance in its 61-48 win over Grand Haven. Vanderveen notched a double-double as he finished the game with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Anthony Benard, Grosse Pointe South

Senior guard and Mercer commit, Anthony Bernard, was everywhere on the floor in his final home game for Grosse Pointe South as it beat New Haven, 62-50. Bernard notched a triple-double as he finished the game with 12 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists.

Joey Cabana, Chelsea High School

Junior point guard Joey Cabana continued to display his scoring ability for Chelsea on Wednesday night despite its last-second loss to Jackson, 83-81. Cabana finished with a team-high 30 points.

Warren Marshall IV, Brother Rice

Junior guard Warren Marshall had a breakout game with his performance to lead Brother Rice over U of D Jesuit, 68-63, for the Catholic League Championship. Marshall finished with a team-high 25 points.

Mohammad Habhab, Fordson High School

Junior Mohammad Habhab stood out with his performance for Fordson despite its 62-48 loss to Riverview. Habhab finished the game with 34 points.

Greg Grays Jr., Farmington High School

Freshman guard Greg Grays Jr. had himself a career night for Farmington as he led them to a 77-68 win over Detroit Public Safety Academy. Grays Jr. was scoring from everywhere as he finished the game with 40 points.

Sonny Wilson, U of D Jesuit

Senior guard and Toledo commit, Sonny Wilson, had an electric performance for U of D despite it 68-63 loss to Brother Rice in the Catholic League Championship. Wilson scored a game-high 31 points and sparked the comeback for U of D before coming up short.

Elijah Hennings, Flint Carman-Ainsworth High School

Senior forward Elijah Hennings was dominant in his performance for Carman-Ainsworth as it beats Saginaw, 81-51. Hennings finished with a game-high 33 points.

Sofia Keller, Battle Creek Academy

Freshman Sofia Keller had a dominant performance to lead Battle Creek Academy over Calhoun Christian, 34-31. Keller notched a double-double as she finished the game with 17 points and 10 rebounds while adding three assists, two steals and one block.

Ruby Hogan, Glen Lake High School

Senior guard Ruby Hogan had an impactful performance for Glen Lake in its big win against St. Mary’s, 64-19. Hogan finished the game with a double-double as she scored 23 points and dished out 10 assists while also adding four rebounds and six steals.

Kayla McCoy, Mesick High School

Junior guard Kayla McCoy had a good performance for Mesick despite its 37-35 loss to Cadillac Heritage Christian. McCoy finished the game with 31 points and seven steals.

Samone Andrews, Dakota High School

Junior point guard Samone Andrews did a little bit of everything for Dakota in its 50-46 win over Saginaw Heritage. Andrews finished the game with 28 points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals.

Cady Kaminske, Riverview High School

Senior Cady Kaminske was lights out in her performance for Riverview as it secured a big win over Airport, 71-43. Kaminske finished the game with 35 points while adding four rebounds, six assists and two steals.

Leah French, Engadine High School

Senior guard Leah French continued her stellar play for Engadine on Thursday in their win over Newberry, 54-17. French notched a triple-double as she was dominating both sides of the ball, finishing the game with 28 points, 12 rebounds, 10 steals, and three assists.

Adelyn Moore, Caro High School

Senior Adelyn Moore continued her dominant play for Caro on Tuesday night despite its 49-43 loss to North Branch. Moore notched a double-double as she finished the game with 18 points, 19 rebounds, five steals, two assists and one block. 

Jayce Johnson, Riverview-Cabrini

Forward Jayce Johnson had a huge game for Riverview-Cabrini to lead them to a Regional playoff win over Monroe St. Mary CC, 9-2. Johnson finished the game responsible for six of Riverview’s nine goals as he finished with three goals and three assists.

Ethan Gilevich, Brownstown Woodhaven

Senior forward Ethan Gilevich put on a big performance for Brownstown Woodhaven as it beat Southgate Anderson, 9-1, in the Regional playoffs. Gilevich was responsible for six of Brownstown’s nine goals as he finished the game with four goals and two assists.

Mason Cole, Saginaw Heritage

Senior forward Mason Cole was a key player for Saginaw Heritage in its Regional playoff win over Midland Dow, 9-1. Cole was responsible for six of nine goals as he finished with four goals and two assists.

Andrew Marone, Brother Rice

Senior forward Andrew Marone was finding the net for Brother Rice as it knocked off Birmingham Unified, 8-0, in the Regional playoffs. Marone finished the game with four goals.

Ryder Mulvey, Grand Rapids Catholic Central

Junior forward Ryder Mulvey was a standout for Grand Rapids Catholic Central in its 7-0 Regional playoff win against Grandville. Mulvey finished the game scoring and setting up his teammates as he scored two goals while adding three assists.
