The Unionville-Sebewaing Patriots defeated the Mendon Hornets 5-4 in the Division 4 MHSAA softball final on Saturday at Secchia Stadium.

Unionville-Sebewaing scored one run on a passed ball in the bottom of the first inning. 

Mendon scored three runs in the third inning. Lauren Schabes tripled to right center for two RBIs. Jadyn Samson and Brielle Bailey scored.

Jaidee Gonser hit a sacrifice fly, and Schabes scored.

The Patriots took the lead again in the top of the fourth inning. Jenna Gremel homered to left field for a three-run shot, and later in the inning, they scored a run from a wild pitch

Every run for the Patriots was critical. Mendon scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning to get within one.

The Hornets loaded the bases. Patriot pitcher Rylie Betson hit Mattea Bingaman with a pitch, and Bailey scored.

Carlie Doehring swung at the first pitch and popped up, leaving three runners stranded as the Patriots celebrated the title. 

Betson finished with seven innings pitched. She allowed four earned runs on five hits. She struck out six batters and walked three.

Gremel finished with three RBIs for the Patriots.

Schabes had three hits and two RBIs for Mendon.
