Scott Merchant, Chippewa Valley
The Big Reds lost to West Bloomfield. However, Merchant and his squad got on the right track this week with a 42-0 win against L’Anse Creuse. Nice bounce back victory.
Brent Cummings, Rockford
Rockford looked good this past week in a 31-8 win over Mona Shores to improve to 2-0 on the young season. Brent Cummings’ squad looks like a top team in the state so far.
Dan Rohn, Warren De La Salle
Warren De La Salle didn’t start the season like they wanted to, as they suffered a loss to Davison in week one to fall to 0-1.
With a matchup against Muskegon in week two, things could’ve gotten real bad with another loss, but Rohn led his team to an impressive 40-28 victory.
John Shillito, Zeeland West
Zeeland West picked up another big win this past week as they defeated Cedar Springs 36-7. Shillito’s squad is looking good to start the season, and it might surprise a lot of people this year.
Justin Cessante, Catholic Central
Week one was not kind to Catholic Central, as it suffered a bad loss against Loyola Academy (IL), 45-7. However, Catholic Central played in-state River Rouge this past week and had a great 38-6 bounce back victory.
Landon Grove, West Catholic
Union High school went into its matchup against West Catholic with a 3-0 record, but a 63-21 loss ended all hopes of a perfect season. Great win for West Catholic to improve to 2-0.
Derek Pennington, Caledonia
Caledonia has taken care of business so far this season, and improved to 2-0 this week with a win against North Farmington. Strong start to the season for Pennington and Caledonia.
Steve Wloszek, Berkley (Soccer)
The Berkley soccer team had a very difficult test on Friday against undefeated Clarkston. The Wolves were expected to get the win, but Steve Wloszek’s team fought hard for a tie to spoil Clarkston’s perfect season.
Sunyong Lee, Unity Christian (Soccer)
Unity Christian has been one of the best soccer teams in the state this season. This past week they picked up convincing wins over Spring Lake and West Catholic, and Sunyong Lee has his team at 6-0.
Kelly Delacher, Rockford (Volleyball)
Rockford recently took on Hudsonville, who many regarded as the best team in the state, and Rockford ended up snagging a convincing win over the once undefeated Eagles.
