Michigan high school football state championship predictions

See who we think will take home the state championships this weekend

Only 16 teams remain in Michigan high school football, and only eight teams will be state champions by Monday.

The MHSAA football state championships are Saturday and Sunday. Here are predictions for who will become a 2023 state champion.

Michigan high school football state championship game schedule, matchups

Southfield A&T football defeats West Bloomfield on final play in Division 1 semifinal

DIVISION 1

Belleville vs. Southfield Arts & Technology

The Division 1 championship is going to be a great matchup, and I’m picking Belleville to get the win. The Tigers have been dominant all season long with quarterback Bryce Underwood, and they are showing no signs of slowing down.

Southfield has tons of talent on offense, but the Tigers have overwhelmed every opponent since week one.

Winner: Belleville

DIVISION 2

Muskegon vs. Warren De La Salle

Both of these teams have dominated their way to the Division 2 championship, so something has to give this weekend. At the end of the day, it’s too difficult to pick against Warren De La Salle, and I’m taking them to win it all.

Winner: De La Salle

DIVISION 3

Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central vs. Mason

The Division 3 semis were some of the best games in the state last week, and both of these teams narrowly survived to get into the championship. This should be another close game, and I’m going with GR Forest Hills Central to pull out a win.

Winner: GR Forest Hills

DIVISION 4

Grand Rapids South Christian vs. Harper Woods

Another Grand Rapids team is in the D4 championship as South Christian will take on Harper Woods. Expect this one to come down to the wire, and I expect GRSC to come out with the win in a thriller.

Winner: Grand Rapids South Christian

DIVISION 5

Grand Rapids Catholic Central vs. Corunna

Grand Rapids teams are well represented as Catholic Central will face Corunna in the D5 championship. When GRCC took down GRWC, I said that I believed the winner would go all the way. I still expect that to happen, so I’m picking GRCC to win this one.

Winner: GR Catholic Central

DIVISION 6

Kingsley vs. Almont

Neither of these teams had any trouble in the D6 semis, but they will both have their hands full this week. This should be an even matchup, and I expect Almont to make the winning plays in the end and leave with a championship trophy.

Winner: Almont

DIVISION 7

Jackson Lumen Christi vs. Menominee

Jackson Lumen Christi has been an absolute force all year long in D7 football, and I just can’t see them losing a game. Congratulations to Menominee on a phenomenal run, but I expect Lumen Christi to win this one fairly easily.

Winner: Lumen Christi

DIVISION 8

Ubly vs. Ottawa Lake Whiteford

The D8 championship should be one of the best games of the week. Ubly and Ottawa Lake Whiteford have been on a collision course since the bracket came out, and they will finally meet. Both teams have cruised to the championship game, but this one should be close. I’m picking Ottawa Lake Whiteford to take the crown.

Winner: Ottawa Lake Whiteford
