Top 25 Michigan high school boys basketball rankings (12/28/23)
The Michigan high school boys basketball wraps up 2023 this week. Teams will look to finish the calendar year strong and enter 2024 with momentum.
No. 1 Brother Rice defeated No. 2 U of D Jesuit and No. 15 De La Salle last week to put a strong grip on the No. 1 spot in the Power 25.

No. 1 Brother Rice (7-0)
The Warriors remained undefeated after taking down Catholic League (Central) foes University of Detroit Jesuit (71-57) and De La Salle (63-42). Prior to the game against De La Salle, Brother Rice had scored over 70 points in four straight games. Its next test comes against Ann Arbor Huron on December 30.
No. 2 U of D Jesuit (7-1)
Three days after falling to Brother Rice, the Cubs knocked off St. Mary’s by a score of 60-55. Following Wednesday’s 70-48 win over Ferndale, U of D’s next game doesn’t come until January 5 against Chelsea.
No. 3 North Farmington (6-0)
North Farmington has scored over 60 points in three straight games, including Friday’s blowout win over Oak Park (64-19). The Raiders have back-to-back home games to close out 2023, one against Henry Ford Academy (12/29) and one against Flat Rock (12/30).
No. 4 St. Mary's Prep (4-1)
St. Mary’s lost its first game of the season to U of D by a score of 60-55. Junior five-star forward Trey McKenney scored a game-high 24 points, but it wasn’t enough for the Eaglets to get a victory. The Eaglets are set to host Warren Lincoln on December 30.
No. 5 Warren Lincoln (5-0)
The Abes dominated Romeo en route to a 78-35 victory. Warren Lincoln has only allowed over 50 points in a game twice this season, but its defense will have its hands full with Trey McKenney and St. Mary’s on December 30.
No. 6 Cass Tech (7-0)
The Technicians defeated Chelsea 58-51 Wednesday night. Following its home game against Groves on December 30, Cass Tech has a short break, and its next game doesn’t come until it visits Dakota on January 8.
No. 7 East Lansing (6-0)
East Lansing dominated Detroit King 60-41 Wednesday night. The closest game East Lansing has been in this season came in a 73-56 win over Everett on December 19. The Trojans have to host River Rouge next on December 30, and it will likely be their biggest test of the season.
No. 8 Northview (6-0)
Northview remained undefeated after beating Fitzgerald 44-36. It was the second game this season in which Northview held its opponent under 40 points, the first of which came in the first game of the season. Northview is set to visit Forest Hills Northern on January 5.
No. 9 Grand Rapids Christian (5-0)
The Eagles beat Catholic Central 69-50 to remain undefeated. 69 points is the most Grand Rapids Christian has scored in a game this season, with the previous high being 60 points against Hudsonville (12/9). The Eagles are set to host Western International on December 29.
No. 10 Muskegon (3-0)
The Big Reds defeated Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills 74-36 on Wednesday night. Muskegon has a short break until its next game, which doesn’t come until it visits Holland on January 5.
No. 11 Dearborn (6-0)
Dearborn dominated Franklin 75-33 to remain undefeated. The Pioneers have scored over 50 points in every game this season, and the most they’ve allowed was 48 against Catholic Central. Dearborn doesn’t play again until January 5 against John Glenn.
No. 12 South Christian (4-1)
South Christian dropped its first game of the season against rival Christian (58-48), and has since rattled off four wins in a row. The Sailors are set to play West Bloomfield next on December 28.
No. 13 Heritage Hawks (4-0)
Heritage demolished Freeland 81-44 on December 19. Heritage has won every game this season by at least 14 points, with its highest margin of victory being 34 over Flushing. Heritage’s next game comes against Chelsea on December 29.
No. 14 Ann Arbor Huron (4-0)
The River Rats handled Old Redford Academy by a score of 72-38. Ann Arbor Huron has its work cut out for it, as its set to play Detroit King and Brother Rice both on December 30 as part of a showcase.
No. 15 De La Salle (4-1)
The Pilots dropped their first game of the season to Brother Rice by a score of 63-42. De La Salle will have a chance for revenge against Brother Rice, but not until January 19. The Pilots’ next game comes against Powers Catholic on December 28.
No. 16 Hudsonville (4-2)
The Eagles bounced back from a loss with a 67-53 victory over Unity Christian. Hudsonville has scored over 60 points in each of its wins this season. The next game for the Eagles comes against Holt on December 29.
No. 17 Flint Powers (7-0)
The Chargers beat Corunna 67-51 to remain undefeated in 2023. Flint Powers has scored over 60 points in every game this season, but it has its toughest test of the year coming up against De La Salle on December 28.
No. 18 Ferndale (4-3)
Ferndale is coming off back-to-back losses against West Bloomfield and U of D, and it lost the first game of the season to Brother Rice. The road doesn’t get any easier for the Eagles, as Muskegon (1/6) and North Farmington (1/9) await them.
No. 19 Zeeland West (4-1)
The Dux were able to beat Covenant Christian 56-46 on Wednesday night. Zeeland West’s only loss this season came against North Farmington on December 16 (66-57). Zeeland West is set to host Rockford next on December 28.
No. 20 Grosse Pointe South (5-3)
Grosse Pointe South is coming off back-to-back losses against U of D (12/22) and Rochester Adams (12/27). The Blue Devils have a chance to get back on the winning side of things when they visit Fitzgerald on December 29.
No. 21 Hamtramck (7-2)
The Cosmos defeated Ferndale University 67-31 Wednesday night following a loss to Whitehall. Hamtramck’s next game comes against Summit Academy North on December 28.
No. 22 Summit Academy North (5-1)
Following a loss to Gabriel Richard on December 12, Summit Academy has won three straight games. Summit Academy is set to play Hamtramck next on December 28.
No. 23 Saline (5-1)
Saline suffered its first loss of the season to East Lansing by a score of 74-45. The Hornets have a chance to get back on the winning side of things when they host New Haven on December 29.
No. 24 River Rouge (5-2)
River Rouge lost to Davison by a score of 78-73. The Panthers have scored over 60 points in every game they’ve won, except for their 57-54 win over Flat Rock on December 8. River Rouge is set to visit Waverly on December 28.
No. 25 Davison (3-2)
After losing its first two games of the season, Davison has won three straight, most recently defeating River Rouge 78-73. Over its last three games, Davison has scored over 77 points in each of them. The Cardinals are set to host Grand Rapids Catholic Central next on December 29.
