The first Power 25 of 2024 in Michigan high school boys basketball is out, and Brother Rice remains at the top spot. The Warriors have upcoming games against Detroit Catholic Central and East Kentwood this week. 

East Lansing continues to rise in the Power 25. The Trojans are up to No. 3 in the Power 25 and enter 2024 without a loss.

No. 1 Brother Rice (8-0)

Brother Rice is heading into January undefeated for the third season in a row. The Warriors were most recently able to beat Ann Arbor Huron on Saturday by a score of 72-56. Brother Rice faces Catholic League (Central) foe Detroit Catholic Central next on January 4. 

No. 2 North Farmington (7-0)

North Farmington defeated Flat Rock 65-43 on Saturday. The Raiders haven’t given up more than 43 points since December 16 against Zeeland West (57). North Farmington has to visit West Bloomfield next on January 4. 

No. 3 East Lansing (7-0)

East Lansing was able to hold off River Rouge for a 63-57 victory. The Trojans were 5-0 after December last season, but a six game losing streak had their record at 7-6 after January. East Lansing will hope to have a more successful start of 2024 when it hosts Grand Blanc on January 5. 

No. 4 U of D Jesuit (7-1)

The Cubs were able to handle Ferndale 70-48 on Wednesday. U of D has won three straight games since its loss against Brother Rice, and the teams have a rematch scheduled for January 16. First, the Cubs will have to get by Chelsea (1/5) and De La Salle (1/9). 

No. 5 St. Mary's Prep Eagles (6-1)

The Eaglets defeated Warren Lincoln 65-58 on Saturday. Coming up in January, every game St. Mary’s will play is a league (Catholic - Central) game, and it plays De La Salle and Detroit Catholic Central twice. The Eaglets kick the month off with their first of two matchups against De La Salle on January 5. 

No. 6 Cass Tech (8-0)

Cass Tech is heading into the new year without a loss after beating Groves 69-50. Aside from giving up 78 points to Detroit Renaissance, the most Cass Tech has allowed in a game is 52 in the first game of the season against Glenn. The Technicians play Dakota on January 8 before a rematch with Renaissance on January 12. 

No. 7 Northview (6-0)

Northview was able to beat Fitzgerald 44-36 on Wednesday. It was by far the lowest scoring contest of the season by Northview, as its previous low for points scored was 64 against Forest Hills Eastern just five days before. The Wildcats have a chance to get back on track against Forest Hills Northern on January 5. 

No. 8 Warren Lincoln (5-2)

The Abes lost their second game of the season to St. Mary’s by a score of 65-58. Lincoln was coming off of a blowout win over Romeo in which it won 78-35. The Abes have to visit Eisenhower next on January 5. 

No. 9 Grand Rapids Christian (6-0)

Christian was able to remain undefeated after beating Western International 57-46. The Eagles have three straight road games coming at them. The first will be against Greenville on January 4. 

No. 10 De La Salle (6-1)

De La Salle was able to dismantle Goodrich en route to a 84-62 win on Saturday. The Pilots have their work cut out for them in the near future, as their next two games come against St. Mary’s (1/5) and U of D Jesuit (1/9). 

No. 11 Muskegon (3-0)

Muskegon took care of Ottawa Hills by a score of 74-36. Of their three games, the Big Reds have won two of them by a combined 71 points, and the other was a one point win over Rockford. Muskegon has to visit Holland next, and it will be its first league (Ottawa - Kent - Green) game of the season. 

No. 12 Dearborn (6-0)

Dearborn easily took care of Franklin by a score of 75-33. The Pioneers haven’t won a game by less than 25 points since they beat Detroit Catholic Central 52-48 on December 8. Dearborn has a league (Kensington Lakes) game against Glenn next on January 5. 

No. 13 Heritage (5-0)

Heritage beat Chelsea 73-66 on Friday. It was by far the most points a team has scored against Heritage this season, as the previous high was 46 against Holt on December 4. The Hawks have to host Hamady next on January 6. 

No. 14 Ann Arbor Huron (4-1)

The River Rats lost their first game of the season to Brother Rice by a score of 72-56. Ann Arbor Huron plays Monroe next on January 9, and it will be the first league (Southeastern - Red) game its had since it beat Bedford on December 15. 

No. 15 Flint Powers (7-1)

The Chargers lost for the first time this season by a score of 66-58 against De La Salle on Thursday. Flint Powers plays its first league (Saginaw Valley) game of the season next against Arthur Hill on January 5. 

No. 16 Davison (4-2)

Davison has won two close games in a row, beating Grand Rapids Catholic Central 63-62 and River Rouge 78-73. Next, Davison will go up against Flushing (1/3) and Detroit Catholic Central (1/6) at home. 

No. 17 Detroit Catholic Central (5-2)

The Shamrocks were able to beat Riverview Gabriel Richard 74-47. Detroit CC has won three straight games since losing to rival De La Salle 54-53 on December 15. The Shamrocks have to host Brother Rice next, and it's the first of two matchups this season. 

No. 18 West Bloomfield (5-4)

West Bloomfield has won three games straight after losing two consecutively to Warren Lincoln (56-51) and River Rouge (71-59). The Lakers most recently beat Renaissance 83-78. West Bloomfield plays North Farmington next on January 4, and it is the first of two matchups between the teams. 

No. 19 South Christian (4-2)

South Christian lost for the second time this season by a score of 59-56 against West Bloomfield on Thursday. Prior to their game against West Bloomfield, the Sailors had won four games in a row. The Sailors have to host Covenant Christian next on January 3. 

No. 20 Saline (6-1)

Saline was able to beat New Haven 76-59 on Friday. It came one week after the Hornets suffered their first loss of the season to East Lansing by a score of 74-45. Saline hosts Flat Rock next on January 5. 

No. 21 Hudsonville (5-2)

After losing to South Christian on December 19, Hudsonville has won two in a row, most recently topping Holt 62-42. The Eagles have seven league (Ottawa - Kent - Red) games straight coming up, starting with Grand Haven on January 5. 

No. 22 Summit Academy North (6-1)

Summit Academy has won four straight games following its 58-55 loss to Riverview Gabriel Richard on December 12. Summit Academy was able to beat Hamtramck 49-40 on Thursday, and it has Lincoln King Academy next on the schedule (1/2). 

No. 23 Zeeland West (4-2)

Zeeland West lost its second game of the season against Rockford by a score of 49-43 on Thursday. The Dux have five straight league (Ottawa - Kent - Green) games coming up next. The first comes against Wyoming on January 5. 

No. 24 Waverly (6-2)

Waverly was able to beat River Rouge 87-77. Waverly has won two in a row since its loss to Canton on December 16. The Warriors host Ottawa Hills next on January 6. 

No. 25 River Rouge (5-4)

The Panthers have had a tough schedule to open the season, and it has them on a three game losing streak. However, those three games were against Davison, Waverly and East Lansing. The road to glory should be slightly smoother in the near future, as the Panthers are set to host Rogers next on January 3.
