West Bloomfield is the top team in Michigan high school girls basketball

West Bloomfield (9-0) comes in at No. 1 in the Michigan high school girls basketball rankings. The Lakers lead with a potent attack from the Davis twins.

East Kentwood is ranked No. 2 after a 60-54 victory over No. 3 Rockford on January 19.

No. 1 West Bloomfield (9-0)

The Lakers are hanging on to top the top spot after their most recent victory against Oxford. It was as dominant as they come as West Bloomfield won 62-20, and they are still undefeated on the season.

No. 2 East Kentwood (10-1)

East Kentwood made the rankings easy for the  No. 2 and No. 3 3 spots this week as they knocked off Rockford. It was a close game as it finished 60-54, and East Kentwood is just ahead of Rockford in our rankings.

No. 3 Rockford (10-1)

Rockford put up a good fight against East Kentwood, but the Rams couldn’t quite get it done. Still, this team is clearly one of the best teams in the state.

No. 4 Detroit Renaissance (12-0)

Detroit Renaissance is another undefeated team that looks like it can take down anyone in the state. It played Muskegon last week and easily pulled away for a 22-point win. This team is legit.

No. 5 Gabriel Richard (11-0)

Gabriel Richard took on Central Catholic on Sunday and picked up an impressive 17-point win against a good Central Catholic team. Gabriel Richard is still undefeated, and they aren’t showing signs of slowing down. 

No. 6 Detroit Edison (9-0)

Detroit Edison is another undefeated team. Edison has played 15 games already, and they are 15-0. Its most recent win came against Catholic Central, and it was a good one. Edison got the win 64-57.

No. 7 Grand Rapids West Catholic (9-1)

Is there anything that GRCC isn’t good at? It is now 9-1, and it took down Spring Lake 58-21 last week. This team is a force.

No. 8 Goodrich (11-0)

Goodrich is an impressive 11-0 on the season so far and they fought off a feisty Lake Fenton team this past week to stay perfect. This team is tough to beat.

No. 9 Grand Haven (10-1)

Grand Haven comes in at No. 9 in the rankings after a dominant performance against Jenison last week. The game was never close, and Grand Haven cruised to a 62-25 win.

No. 10 Ishpeming (10-0)

Ishpeming is now 9-0, and it is staying perfect in dominating fashion. Its last win came last week against Gwinn, and the final score was 70-33. There aren’t many teams on Ishpeming’s schedule that can beat them.

No. 11 Arbor Prep (8-2)

Arbor Prep had a lot of tough games at the beginning of the season and they dropped a couple games early, but they are now as hot as ever. It has won six in a row, and last week, and it took down Genesee Christian by 40 points. 

No. 12 Stoney Creek (9-0)

A very gritty game between Stoney Creek and Rochester took place last week. Stoney Creek survived a low scoring, defensive war to stay perfect on the season as it outlasted Rochester 30-28.

No. 13 Byron Center (8-2)

At the beginning of the season, Byron Center lost a couple of tough matchups, but it is now one of the hottest teams in the state as it has rattled off seven wins in a row. It looks like this team has found its stride.

No. 14 Brandywine (8-0)

The schedule for Brandywine hasn’t been super challenging, but it deserves a lot of credit for its dominance so far this season. It just beat Bronson 54-31, and it is still undefeated. 

No. 15 Belleville (8-1)

Belleville dominated Dearborn over the weekend to earn an impressive 71-25 win. With the win, it is now 8-1 on the season and looking very good.

No. 16 Freeland (10-1)

Another one-loss team that is playing very well is Freeland. It just picked up a big win against Chelsea, and because of that, the Bulldogs will be just below them in the No. 17 spot.

No. 17 Chelsea (8-3)

Chelsea did recently drop a game to Freeland, so it had to be behind them in the rankings, but it is still playing good basketball. Its most recent win came against Adrian as it dominated the Maples, 60-19.

No. 18 Negaunee (12-1)

There were a lot of dominant performances from top teams last week, and Negaunee had one of them. It played Westwood on Saturday, and it won 60-18 to improve to 11-1 on the year. Great start to the season for this squad.

No. 19 Elk Rapids (10-1)

Elk Rapids has lost just one game this season, and it is proving to be a tough out for any opponent. It recently took on Boyne City and earned an impressive 57-29 win. This team can win a lot of games this year.

No. 20 Lowell (8-2)

On Saturday, Lowell took on Greenville and dominated the game for a 55-37 win. After a loss, that was the bounce back that this team needed, and it has only lost two games on the season.

No. 21 DeWitt (10-2)

Another team looking for a bounce back win last week was DeWitt. They had a huge game against East Lansing, and it was a good game, but DeWitt proved to be too much in the end as they got the big win, 61-49.

No. 22 Dakota (10-2)

Dakota was close to suffering a loss last week that likely would’ve dropped them from the rankings, but they found a way to get it done late. They took down Port Huron 42-37 to improve to 10-2 on the season.

No. 23 Jackson Northwest (8-1)

Jackson Northwest battled it out with Pennfield last week, and it ended up being an easy win for Jackson. It has now won three games in a row after the convincing 49-24 win.

No. 24 West Ottawa (7-3)

West Ottawa has gotten off to a solid start this season as they have only lost two games so far. Last week, it played an impressive game against Jenison and earned a 66-42 win. 

No. 25 Grand Blanc (9-3)

After dropping a few games early in the season, Grand Blanc is now on a roll. They have won four games in a row, and the latest was a 57-38 drubbing of Cadillac. We’ll see if they can keep climbing up the rankings.
