Michigan High School Athlete of the Week nominations 

Luke Gelow, Gaylord High School

Senior guard Luke Gelow continues to impress for Gaylord as he had two dominant performances. On Tuesday against St. Ignance, Gelow notched a double-double as he finished with 34 points and 12 rebounds despite a 68-62 loss, and then on Friday would drop 38 points and five rebounds despite another loss to Traverse City West, 69-61. 

TJ Nadeau, Detroit Catholic Central

Senior guard/forward TJ Nadeau continued his stellar play as he dropped a game-high 32 points for Detroit Catholic Central despite a tough loss to De La Salle, 72-71. 

Joey Cabana, Chelsea

Senior guard Joey Cabana had an impressive performance against Saline as he finished with a game-high 30 points to lead Chelsea to a 59-57 win. 

Leroy Blyden Jr, U of D Jesuit

Junior point guard Leroy Blyden Jr caught fire in the second half as he put up a game-high 34 points for U of D Jesuit as they knocked off Brother Rice, 56-50. 

Lance Stone, Renaissance

Senior point guard Lance Stone had himself a career night as he finished with 30 points to pass the 1,000 career-point mark as Renaissance defeated Kalamazoo Central, 73-69. 

Averie Zinn, Genesee

Sophomore guard Averie Zinn was doing it all for Genesee in their wins over Beecher and Bendle. On Tuesday against Beecher, Zinn totaled 33 points, 16 steals, nine rebounds, seven assists, and one block, while on Friday against Bendle Zinn finished with 36 points, 18 steals, nine rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. 

Lillie Johnson, Gladstone

Sophomore Lillie Johnson had a dominant performance for Gladstone on Tuesday night as she notched a double-double finishing with 29 points and 10 rebounds while adding six steals, two assists, and two blocks. 

Delaney Elsmore, Mattawan

Senior guard Delaney Elsmore notched a double-double in her performance for Mattawan as she finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds while adding three steals, and one assist. 

Makayla Watkins, Grayling

Senior forward Makayla Watkins had herself a game for Grayling on Tuesday night as she notched a triple-double, finishing with 18 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 steals while adding four assists in a 69-49 win over Kalkaska. 

Keira Maki, Escanaba

Senior guard/forward Keira Maki finished with a double-double as she scored 19 points while grabbing 11 rebounds and adding seven assists, and two blocks despite a loss to Bark River Harris, 66-63. 

Jackson Froysland, Byron Center

Senior forward Jackson Froysland had a stellar performance as he totaled five goals with two assists to lead Byron Center to a 10-0 win over Saginaw Heritage. 

Gunnar Weber, Bay City

Senior forward Gunnar Weber had himself a night as he scored five goals while adding two assists to lead Bay City over the FNV Griffins, 11-3. 

Ryan Elenich, Farmington United

Senior forward Ryan Elenich had a career night as he chipped in five goals and three assists as Farmington United defeated Lakeshore Badgers, 10-1. 

Caden Gleason, Sparta

Junior forward Caden Gleason notch his fourth hat trick of the season as he finished with three goals and one assist as Sparta took a win from Ann Arbor Huron, 8-0. 

Asher Zacks, Detroit Country Day

Senior goalkeeper Asher Zacks was a force for Detroit Country Day as he finished with 39 saves on 40 shots while only allowing one goal as Country Day beat Allen Park, 4-1.
