Byron Center breaks into the rankings after a big win last week

The No. 25 Byron Center Bulldogs (13-5) enter the rankings after wins over No. 6 Grand Rapids Christian (14-2) and Covenant Christian (11-8) last week.

No. 1 St. Mary's (17-1)

The Eaglets were able to beat St. Francis de Sales (Ohio) 68-59 on Tuesday and Central Catholic (Ohio) 62-38 on Saturday. Tuesday’s nine point victory was the first time St. Mary’s Prep didn’t win by more than ten since beating U of D Jesuit 76-68 on January 19. Some of the league tournaments have begun, and the Eaglets are set for a Catholic League matchup against De La Salle next on February 13.

No. 2 East Lansing (16-2)

After going 1-2 in its previous three games, East Lansing defeated Everett on Tuesday (77-46) and Lansing Waverly on Friday (57-53). The Trojans have four league games coming up, beginning with Holt on February 12. 

No. 3 Dearborn (18-0)

The Pioneers remained undefeated with a 63-41 win over Fordson on February 9. 63 points is the lowest amount Dearborn has scored in a game since it beat Detroit Catholic Central 52-48 on December 8. The Pioneers are set to host Churchill next on February 13. 

No. 4 Warren Lincoln (16-3)

The Abes have won three games in a row since losing to East Kentwood on February 3, most recently beating Thornton (Illinois) 61-59 on Saturday. Warren Lincoln only has Roseville (2/13) and Kalamazoo Central (2/17) left on its schedule. 

No. 5 Ann Abor Huron (16-2)

Ann Arbor Huron was able to beat Bedford on Tuesday (71-47) and Skyline on Friday by a score of 58-42. The River Rats have won nine games in a row since they lost to Ann Arbor Pioneer 61-55 on January 17. Ann Arbor Huron will get a chance at revenge when it visits Ann Arbor Pioneer next on February 13. 

No. 6 Grand Rapids Christian (15-2)

The Eagles lost to Byron Center 49-43 on Tuesday, but they were able to beat Grand Rapids Northview 54-43 on Friday. Christian will play East Grand Rapids next on February 13 before a rematch with Northview on February 14. 

No. 7 North Farmington (15-2)

North Farmington lost to West Bloomfield on Tuesday (61-42), but it beat Ferndale 67-62 on Friday. The Raiders are now 2-2 in their last four games after starting the season 13-0. North Farmington is set to play Detroit Communication Media Arts on February 16.

No. 8 Brother Rice (14-5)

Brother Rice beat St. John’s Jesuit (Ohio) 64-51 on Tuesday, as well as St. Francis de Sales (Ohio) 47-30 on Saturday. Brother Rice is set to play Detroit Catholic Central next on February 13, as part of the Catholic League tournament. 

No. 9 Detroit Catholic Central (12-7)

The Shamrocks lost to U of D Jesuit 78-73 on Tuesday, but they were able to win the immediate rematch on Saturday by a score of 51-49 to advance in the Catholic League tournament. Detroit Catholic Central is set to play Brother Rice next on February 13, and the teams split their regular season series 1-1.

No. 10 U of D Jesuit (14-5)

The Cubs beat Detroit Catholic Central 78-73 on Tuesday, but they lost the rematch in the Catholic League tournament on Saturday 51-49. U of D Jesuit’s next contest will come in the state tournament. 

No. 11 De La Salle (12-6)

De La Salle was able to beat Central Catholic (Ohio) 48-45 on Tuesday, as well as St. John’s Jesuit (Ohio) 50-48 on Saturday. The Pilots are set to play St. Mary’s Prep next on February 13 as part of the Catholic League tournament. 

No. 12 Grand Rapids Northview (13-3)

The Wildcats beat Lowell on Tuesday by a score of 67-52, but they lost to Grand Rapids Christian 54-53 on Friday. Northview is set to play Forest Hills Central next on February 13 before a rematch with Christian on February 14. 

No. 13 West Bloomfield (13-5)

The Lakers took down North Farmington 61-42 on Tuesday before beating Rochester Adams 76-57 on Friday. West Bloomfield’s last loss came at the hands of North Farmington on January 4, and it has since won eight games straight. West Bloomfield will host Oak Park next on February 12. 

No. 14 Cass Tech (17-1)

The Technicians demolished Traverse City Central 87-48 on Saturday. It was the most points Cass Tech has scored in a game since it beat Renaissance 88-85 on January 12. The Technicians are set to play Detroit Western International next on February 13 as part of the Detroit Public School League tournament. 

No. 15 Utica (18-0)

Utica was able to beat Lakeview on Tuesday (65-48) and Cousino on Thursday (64-38). The Chieftains are set to play L’Anse Creuse next on February 13. 

No. 16 Rockford (15-3)

The Rams were able to beat Grand Haven on Tuesday 66-51, as well as Grandville 63-55 on Friday. Rockford has now gone nearly two full months since its last loss to Muskegon on December 15 (52-51). The Rams will visit Hudsonville next on February 13. 

No. 17 Muskegon (13-2)

Muskegon beat Mona Shores 69-46 on Tuesday, and it was also able to get its revenge on rival Muskegon Reeths-Puffer by winning 48-28 on Friday. The Big Reds will host Zeeland East on February 13 before visiting Zeeland West on February 16. 

No. 18 Whitehall (18-0)

Whitehall easily took care of Big Rapids 75-27 before edging out a victory over Montague by a score of 64-62. The Vikings are set to host Manistee (2/13) and Ludington (2/16) next. 

No. 19 Saginaw Heritage (13-3)

The Hawks took down Carman-Ainsworth 67-57 on Friday. Heritage could have one of its toughest tests of the season coming up when it visits Davison next on February 13.

No. 20 Summit Academy North (17-1)

Summit Academy dominated Detroit Country Day by a score of 67-47 on Tuesday, and it also beat Ecorse on Thursday (89-45) and Detroit University Art Prep & Design on Saturday (62-46). Summit Academy is set to play Detroit Edison next on February 14. 

No. 21 Walled Lake Central (17-1)

The Vikings were able to beat rival Walled Lake Western by a score of 67-44 on Friday. Walled Lake Central hasn’t won a game by less than ten points since it beat Milford 40-35 on January 19. The Vikings are set to play South Lyon East next on February 13. 

No. 22 Davison (13-3)

The Cardinals defeated Saginaw 106-86 on Saturday. It was Davison’s highest scoring game of the season, and the last time it scored more was a 108-33 win over Genesee on January 10 of 2023. The Cardinals will play Swartz Creek next on February 12. 

No. 23 Hudsonville (12-5)

Hudsonville took care of Caledonia 62-45 on Tuesday, and it also beat East Kentwood 56-48 on Friday. The Eagles haven’t won more than two games in a row since early January, but they have a chance to make it three straight when they host Rockford on February 13. 

No. 24 East Kentwood (11-6)

East Kentwood demolished Jenison 80-52 on Tuesday, but it fell to Hudsonville on Friday by a score of 56-48. The Falcons have a chance to get back in the win column against Grandville next on February 13. 

No. 25 Byron Center (13-5)

The Bulldogs beat Grand Rapids Christian on Tuesday by a score of 49-43, and they also beat Lowell on Friday (75-45) and Covenant Christian on Saturday (61-55). Byron Center will host Greenville next on February 13.
