Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Michigan Athlete of the Week from Feb. 4 - 11

Michigan High School Athlete of the Week nominees

Ayden Davis, Onsted

Senior center Ayden Davis had a dominant performance for Onsted as he notched a triple-double with 37 points, 24 rebounds, and 10 blocks in a win over Blissfield, 81-71. 

Greg Lawson, Davison

Junior guard Greg Lawson put on a performance for Davison as he finished with a triple-double, notching 33 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists in Davison’s 102-86 win over Saginaw. 

Camden Thompson, Whitehall

Junior guard/forward Camden Thompson continues to dominate as he finished with a double-double notching 25 points and 16 rebounds along with four steals and three assists as Whitehall edged Montague, 64-62. 

Trenton Taratuta, Hillman

Senior guard Trenton Taratuta shined for Hillman as he finished with 43 points, 14 rebounds, eight assists, and seven steals in a dominating win over Atlanta, 82-18. 

Markell Tate, Durand

Senior Markell Tate had an all-around game for Durand as he notched 27 points, 12 rebounds, eight blocks, seven steals, and four assists in a win over Mt. Morris, 76-67. 

Luke Gelow, Gaylord

Senior Luke Gelow was stellar all week for Gaylord. On Tuesday, Gelow notched a double-double as he finished with 30 points and 12 rebounds while adding one steal in a loss to Bay City Western. On Thursday, Gelow would drop 42 points while adding two rebounds, one assist and one steal despite a loss to Traverse City Central. 

Keira Maki, Escanaba

Senior Keira Maki had herself a career night for Escanaba as she finished with 31 points and 10 rebounds while topping the career 1,000-point mark in a big win over Gwinn, 63-31. 

Ashley Folkema, Muskegon Christian

Senior Ashley Folkema finished with 30 points and nine rebounds for Muskegon Christian as they defeated Martin, 59-51. 

Olivia Flynn, Harbor Springs

Junior Olivia Flynn finished with 31 points for Harbor Springs in a big win over East Jordan, 63-36. 

Mia McLaughlin, Frankenmuth

Senior guard Mia McLaughlin had herself a week of hoops. On Tuesday night, McLaughlin would set a school record of nine three-pointers on her way to 33 points in a win against Birch Run. On Friday night, McLaughlin made more history as she finished with 17 points to eclipse the 1,000 career points mark in a win against Bridgeport. 

Cade Pratt, Byron Center

Senior forward Cade Pratt notched a hat trick as he finished with three goals and one assist in a 6-0 win over Grandville. 

Grant Lucas, Bay Reps

Senior forward Grant Lucas had two great performances for Bay Reps last week. On Friday, Lucas notched a hat trick as he finished with three goals and one assist in a 10-2 win over Fenton-Linden Area Griffins. Then on Saturday, Lucas notched another hat trick with three goals in a 3-0 win over Manistique. 

Gavin Mulcahy, South Lyon Unified

Senior forward Gavin Mulcahy finished with a hat trick as he netted three goals to lead South Lyon over Bloomfield Hills, 7-5. 


Aydan Miles, Negaunee

Junior forward Aydan Miles finished with five goals on Tuesday for Negaunee despite a 13-5 loss to Hancock Central. 

Zach Jaakkola, Jackson Lumen Christi

Junior goalkeeper Zach Jaakkola finished the game with 41 saves on 43 shots on goal while only allowing two scores to help Jackson Lumen Christi over Jackson United, 7-2.
