Michigan High School Athlete of the Week nominees


Justin McIllwain, Hamilton

Senior Justin McIllwain had a career night as he scored a game-high 44 points on his way to eclipse the 1,000 career point mark in Hamilton’s win against Wayland, 95-72. 

Ryan Good, Britton Deerfield

Junior Ryan Good finished with 34 points to lead Britton Deerfield to its first district title in school history as they knocked off Adrian Lenawee Christian, 63-59. 

Mason Brodi, Utica

Senior Mason Brodi poured in a game-high 37 points for Utica as they notched its first district title since 2009 in a 66-61 win over Rochester Adams. 

EJ Ryans, Grand Rapids Northview

Senior EJ Ryans finished with 34 points for Grand Rapids Northview to lead them to a win over Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern, 61-49. 

Ayden Davis, Onsted

Mr. Basketball finalist and senior center Ayden Davis had a dominant showing for Onsted as he finished with 31 points, 14 rebounds, eight blocks, and two assists in a 62-53 win over Adrian for the Division 2 district championship. 

Parker LePla, Goodrich

Junior forward Parker LePla had an impressive showing for Goodrich as he finished with 23 points, 19 rebounds, and five blocks as the Martians took down Lake Fenton for its fourth straight district title. 

Lily Zeinstra, Byron Center

Senior Lily Zeinstra continues her stellar play on the year as she notched 36 points for Byron Center in a dominating win over Greenville, 63-28. 


Delaney Elsmore, Mattawan

Senior guard Delaney Elmsore notched a double-double as she finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds along with four steals despite a 38-36 loss to St. Joseph. 

Emily Zelinko, St. Charles

Senior guard Emily Zelinko scored 27 points along with five rebounds, five steals, three assists, and two rebounds as St. Charles dominated against Merrill, 63-38.


Mia McLaughlin, Frankenmuth

Senior guard Mia McLaughlin would notch a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds along with two assists, one steal, and one block on Tuesday night in a win over Lansing Catholic, 43-36. Then on Thursday, McLaughlin would finish with 27 points, six rebounds, one steal, and one block in a 63-58 win over Detroit Edison. 

Keira Maki, Escanaba

Senior Keira Maki poured in 25 points with seven rebounds, three steals, two blocks, and one assist in a loss to Marquette, 53-49. 

Michael Maillette, Houghton

Senior forward Michael Maillette notched a hat trick and more as he finished with four goals in a 7-1 win over Sault Ste Marie in the state quarterfinals. 

Grant Lucas, Bay Reps

Senior forward Grant Lucas would finish with a hat trick as he scored three goals along with one assist to lead Bay Reps to a state quarterfinal win over Alpena, 3-1. 

Cameron Duffany, Brighton

For the second consecutive week, senior forward Cameron Duffany shined as he notched three goals to lead Brighton to a state quarterfinal win against Livonia Stevenson, 7-2. 


Brady Swanson, Byron Center

Senior goalkeeper Brady Swanson finished with 26 saves while not allowing a single goal as Byron Center knocked off Mattawan for the regional championship, 7-0.
