Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Michigan Athlete of the Week from March 11-17

Michigan High School Athlete of the Week nominees

Trey McKenney, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s

Junior Trey McKenney showed why he’s one of the best players in the country as he finished with 32 points and 10 rebounds to lead Orchard Lake St. Mary’s to its first Division 1 state championship since 2000 in a 63-52 win over North Farmington. 


Markus Blackwell, Warren Lincoln

Junior Markus Blackwell finished with 24 points to lead Warren Lincoln to its first ever Division 2 state championship in school history as they knocked off Grand Rapids Christian, 53-39. 

Jordan VanKlombenberg, Wyoming Tri-Unity Christian

Senior Jordan VanKlomenberg notched a team-high 19 points as Wyoming Tri-Unity Christian defeated Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart, 79-59, for the Division 4 state championship. 

Jeremiah Palmer, Niles Brandywine

Senior guard Jeremiah Palmer finished with a team-high 18 points to help lead Niles Brandywine to its first-ever Division 3 state championship in school history with a win against Old Redford, 56-48. 

Jonny Ingalls, St. Ignace

Senior guard Jonny Ingalls exploded for a game-high 31 points for St. Ignace despite the D-4 semifinal loss to Wyoming Tri-Unity Christian, 60-53. 

Keaton Blanker, Wyoming Tri-Unity Christian

Junior guard Keaton Blanker did it all for Wyoming Tri-Unity as he finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds in the semifinal win against St. Ignace before dropping 11 points, 12 assists, and seven rebounds to help them secure the D-4 state championship. 

Tyler Spratt, North Farmington

Senior guard Tyler Spratt scored 19 points for North Farmington in its D-1 semifinal win against Zeeland West, 58-39, before finishing with 17 points in the state championship loss to St. Mary’s. 

Sarah LaPrairie, Rochester Hills Stoney Creek

Senior Sarah LaPrairie notched 32 points for Stoney Creek to lead them to its first-ever regional championship as they knocked off Macomb Dakota, 59-45. 

Kendall Hendrix, West Bloomfield

Senior forward Kendall Hendrix notched a double-double as she finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds while adding two assists, two steals, and two blocks in a regional championship win over Renaissance, 61-48. 

Lucy Freytag, Royal Oak

Junior Lucy Freytag finished with 23 points to lead Royal Oak to a regional semifinal win over Grosse Pointe North, 53-48. 

Kaylynn Millander, Fitzgerald

Junior guard Kaylynn Millander dropped 28 points while adding five rebounds and three steals to lead Fitzgerald to a regional semifinal win over Harper Woods, 52-51. 

Sydney Savoury, Belleville

Freshman Sydney Savoury finished with a game-high 24 points to lead Belleville to a Division 1 regional championship win over Canton, 61-23.
