Photos: Maranatha upsets Southwest Christian in Class 1A quarterfinals
The Mustangs scored two goals in the second half to take down the No. 1-seed Stars
The Maranatha Christian Academy Mustangs (9-10-1) upset the No. 1-seeded South Christian Stars 3-2 in the Class 1A quarterfinals Thursday night at Monticello High School.
Southwest Christian's (15-4) Sam Widdifield scored the first goal of the game, and Maranatha's Toli Legesse answered to take the game 1-1 into halftime.
Southwest Christian opened the scoring in the second half with a Jake Bettin goal. Tevin Asiago tied the game for Maranatha, and Jaydon Dimitrov scored the third and final goal of the game for Maranatha to advance to the semifinals at U.S. Bank Stadium.
The Mustangs will play St. Paul Academy on Tuesday, 11/1 at 5 p.m. at U.S. Bank Stadium.
