Minnesota high school football is over, and many players stood out in the 2023 Class 6A season.
SBLive has chosen 20 standout athletes who had top seasons in the 2023.

Minnesota high school football Class 6A Player of the Year nominees
Charles Langama – Maple Grove
Langama was fantastic for Maple Grove before an injury cut his season short. He finished with 1,425 total yards and 26 touchdowns in seven games.
John Warpinski – Edina
Warpinski had the most rushing attempts in Class 6A. He had 1,773 total yards at 5.8 yards per carry and 19 touchdowns.
Sonny Villegas - Edina
Villegas was second in Class 6A in receptions, and he had the most receiving yards in the class with 973. He also had 10 touchdown receptions.
Carter Holcomb – Rochester Mayo
Holcomb led Class 6A in receptions with 66. He finished with 948 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Antonio Menard – Lakeville North
Menard led a fierce Panther defensive line. He finished with 78 tackles and 13 tackles for loss this season. He is committed to the Air Force Academy.
Howie Johnson – Forest Lake
Only a sophomore, Johnson is already one of the premier defensive lineman in Minnesota. Johnson had 80 total tackles, seven sacks, one forced fumble and one blocked kick.
Jide Abasiri – Prior Lake
Abasiri is as big as any lineman at 6-foot-5, 290 pounds. He can disrupt any offense in seconds. He is committed to Minnesota.
Owen Kemper – Edina
Kemper was a playmaker for the Hornets on their way to the Class 6A Prep Bowl. He finished with 128 total tackles, six interceptions and one forced fumble.
Tanner Zolnosky – East Ridge
Zolnosky was the leader in a playoff run that ended one point short of U.S. Bank Stadium and the Class 6A semifinals. In three playoff games, Zolnosky combined for 768 passing yards, five passing touchdowns, 222 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. Zolnosky finished this season with 2,344 yards and 22 total touchdowns.
Tait Anderberg – Lakeville North
One of the top tackles in the state. Anderberg pushed defenders off the line all season. Anderberg is committed to Northern Iowa.
Mo Saine – Eden Prairie
One of the best athletes in Minnesota, Saine is 6-foot-5, 270 pounds and he finished with 36 tackles and three sacks.
Marcus Whiting – Centennial
Whiting dominated this season with 73 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss, nine sacks and one forced fumble.
Mark Rendl – Forest Lake
Rendl was one of the top linebackers in Minnesota in 2023. He finished with 83 total tackled, three sacks, one forced fumble and one interception.
Mason West – Edina
The quarterback for the Class 6A runners-up, the Hornets could throw against any defense this season. He had a 65.5 percent completion percentage, 2,625 passing yards and 28 passing touchdowns.
Peyton Podany – Anoka
Podany threw for 2,194 yards and 20 touchdowns to lead Anoka to a 6-3 record this season.
Nick Kinsey – Stillwater
The sophomore quarterback threw the second-most passes in Class 6A, and he completed 57 percent of them for 2,268 yards and 24 touchdowns to four interceptions.
Maverick Harper – Centennial
The spearhead of the Cougars' run game, Harper finished with 1,394 and 19 touchdowns.
Khijohnn Cummings-Coleman – Coon Rapids
A threat on both sides of the ball, Cummings-Coleman finished with 668 receiving yards and five interceptions.
Dylan Hageman – Roseville
Tied with Kemper as the leading tackler in Class 6A with 128, Hageman was everywhere for the Raiders' defense this season.
Melvin Wallace – Centennial
Wallace was a menace against opposing offensive lines and quarterbacks all season for the Class 6A state champions. The senior finished with 10.5 sacks this season to lead Class 6A.
