Minnesota High School Athlete of the Week nominees

Sam Schulte, Mounds View

The Mustangs have been on a five game losing skid as of late, but thankfully, Schulte put together a career game to help get his team the win. Schulte netted a goal and three assists, pushing the Mustangs to a 4-1 victory over Woodbury.

Mason Moe, Eden Prairie

Gridlocked 3-3 against Stillwater heading into overtime, the Eagles needed someone to step up, and Moe did just that. The sophomore buried his second goal of the game in overtime, lifting the Eagles to a 4-3 victory over Stillwater.

Hagen Burrows, Minnetonka

The Skippers are used to a spread out attack where everyone scores the puck, but when their attack stalled against Buffalo, it was Burrows who stepped up. The senior scored all four of Minnnetonka’s goals, leading them to a 4-0 win that kept its unbeaten streak alive.

Kai Weigel, Moorhead

Weigel’s second shutout of the season was surely his most impressive. Hermantown is a team known for its high-flying attack, but even so, Weigel absolutely stonewalled them, stopping all 33 shots that went his way en route to a 1-0 victory for Moorhead.

Aidan Miller, Park of Cottage Grove

Speaking of shutouts, Park of Cottage Grove’s goalie had an excellent game. Miller was a brick wall in the net, saving all 28 shots for Park to get his team the 1-0 win.

Dylan Keeley, Roseville

On the other side of the ice, Roseville’s goalie was putting together a gem of his own. Despite the 1-0 loss, Keely was brilliant, saving 41 of the 42 shots that went his way to keep his team in the game until the final horn.

Thomas Vekich, Greenway

In what was arguably the most surprising result of the year, Vekich and his 3-15 Greenway squad came into town and skated stride-for-stride with a 16-3-1 Red Lake Falls team. Vekich scored five points on two goals and three assists in a game that finished in a 6-6 tie.

Louis Wehmann, Providence Academy

Wehmann has put up 42 goals on the year, four of them being in his last game against Rochester Lourdes. Wehmann racked up five points on the night, and as a result, helped lift Providence Academy to a 10-5 victory.

Zach Price, Maple Grove

It was the week of the shutouts, and Price was no exception to this rule. The Maple Grove goalie saved all 19 shots rifled his way, assisting in a 6-0 lopsided victory for the Crimson.

Easton Cody, Centennial

Facing a 14-win White Bear team with a win streak on the line, it was Cody who ended up as the difference maker for Centennial. The goalie boasted a .975 save percentage and saved 40 shots, but the most important stat of the night was the 2-1 victory Centennial picked up.

Katie Zakrajsheck, Benilde-St. Margaret's

Zakrajsheck and Benilde were on fire lately, and their most recent 12-0 win only serves to bolster this claim. Zakrajsheck was on fire, scoring five points on two goals and three assists in what proved to be a lopsided victory.

Grace Laager, Centennial/Spring Lake Park

In a clash of the titans, every goal counts, and Laager was the one whose goal counted the most. The freshman’s goal proved to be the difference maker, pushing the 22-win Centennial/Spring Lake Park team to yet another victory.

Siena Carver, Benilde-St. Margaret's

Carver’s two assists to go with Benilde’s 12-0 victory was certainly impressive, but one could argue that wasn’t even the most impressive stat of the night. Carver and the defense held their opponent to only four shots through three periods, an outstanding effort that kept Benilde on top.

Karlee Kalbrener, Warroad

The Warriors have been spotty as of late, but Kalbrener helped her team get right back on track. The freshman forward notched five points on a hat trick and three assists, and Warroad recovered from its slump nicely to earn a 10-0 win over Rock Ridge.

Maya Engler, Andover

Picking up a goal short-handed is a feat in and of itself, but doing it to win a hockey game is another thing entirely. Engler did just that, scoring short-handed late in the third period to snatch a win from the jaws of Stillwater.

Olyvia Erickson, Hastings

Erickson holds just the second overtime game-winner for Hastings so far this year. The sophomore forward buried the final goal of the game in overtime, and Hastings earned a 3-2 win as a result.

Grace Kober, Rochester Mayo

Kober and Rochester Mayo pitched a 3-0 shutout this past week thanks to the 17 saves she picked up versus Mankato West, her fifth shutout of the year.

Addison Moudry, Farmington

Moudy was caught in the thick of a goalie duel this past week, and stepped up to the challenge. Despite facing 14 more shots than her opponent, Moudry held the game to a 2-2 stalemate, racking up 40 saves in the process.

Jackson Hayes, Waconia

Hayes and Waconia have been on a tear all season, and last week was no exception. Hayes caught fire in a game against Prior Lake, scoring 22 points in what proved to be a 83-75 victory, the Wildcat’s 14th of the season already.

Owen Waldoch, Forest Lake

Forest Lake may not be known as a basketball school. But Waldoch could be changing the narrative. The forward has scored 36 and 24 points in his last two games, and the Rangers have won four straight.

Henry Tschetter, Stewartville

Tschetter and Stewartville have been dominant offensively, as evident from the last pair of games. Tschetter has put up 22 and 28 points, and thanks to these clutch performances, Stewartville has won both of its last games by just two points a piece.

Tori Oehrlein, Crosby-Ironton

Oehrlein recently made history for Crosby-Ironton, earning her 3,000th point despite being just a sophomore. Oehrlein has averaged a whopping 37.6 points per game so far on the season, making her one of the state’s top shooters.

Amy Thompson, Stillwater

A 40-point performance is something most prep athletes dream of doing once, but Thompson did it twice in one week. She scored 48 and 44 points on back-to-back nights, willing Stillwater to a pair of one-sided victories

June Tessum, PACT Charter

Tessum may not have picked up a victory for PACT Charter, but she still had a great game versus Blake. The freshman scored 23 points, pulled down 10 boards, and added seven steals to top off what proved to be an excellent performance.
