Live score recap: Dodge County defeats Holy Angels in Minnesota high school girls hockey Class 1A semifinals

ST. PAUL — The No. 1-seed Dodge County Wildcats defeated the No. 4-seed Academy of Holy Angels 4-1 in the 2025 Minnesota high school girls hockey Class 1A semifinals on Friday at the Xcel Energy Center.
The Wildcats started the tournament on Wednesday with a win 2-0 win over No. 8-seed River Lakes, but they felt like they played below their standard to start the tournament.
On Friday, the Wildcats had to wait for the Warroad vs. Orono game to finish in the third overtime before taking to the ice for warmups. Plenty of time to tighten up, but the Wildcats played karaoke and practiced their introductions during the wait.
"We all practiced our walk-ups because we’re kind of a funky bunch," senior Hannah Peterson said.
The Wildcats came ready to play, and while the first period ended scoreless, Dodge County outshot the Stars 12-to-4.
"Last year, I think we just over-gripped sticks in our first championship game," Dodge County head coach Jeremy Gunderson said. "I think we were like that in the first game. A lot of time it’s finding that happy balance of letting them enjoy themselves … be loose because good things will happen."
The Wildcats broke through for their first of three goals in the second period when Peterson scored.
"She got a big ol’ snipe out there, and then it brought the team up, and then the positivity on the bench, it just made us dig deeper and play harder," sophomore Maysie Koch said.
Zoe Heiner and Nora Carstensen scored the next two goals for the Wildcats in the second period to secure Dodge County's second-consecutive trip to the Class 1A championship. They will play Warroad again after losing 5-2 in the 2024 championship.
"We all knew that we could make it back and have another run," junior defender Alexa Van Straaten said. "All season, we’ve been focused on our main goal."
The Wildcats will play No. 3-seed Warroad in the Class 1A championship on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Xcel Energy Center.
