MINNEAPOLIS — The No. 2 Wayzata Trojans (28-4) defeated the No. 1 Cretin-Derham Hall Raiders (29-2) 80-55 in the 2025 Minnesota (MSHSL) high school boys basketball state tournament Class 4A championship on Saturday at Williams Arena.

The Trojans pulled away in the final seven minutes of the first half. They outscored the Raiders 21-9 in that stretch.

"We moved the ball," Wayzata coach Bryan Schnettler said. "It was the first time in the tournament where we finally looked relaxed. Defensively, we played really well. ... Our kids were awesome and they executed really well."

Wayzata's ball movement led to open threes all night, and the Trojans took advantage. They finished 11-of-29 from beyond the arc.

"It was really fun to finally have that confidence that they’ve played with all year," Schnettler said. "These guys work really hard to be the shooters that they are. That doesn’t happen by accident. It was really fun to see them do it on the biggest stage."

The Raiders answered with two quick points out of halftime, but Wyatt McBeth's dunk on Cretin-Derham Hall's Tommy Ahneman sparked the Trojans to a 6-0 run, and they slowly pulled away throughout the second half.

"That felt awesome," McBeth said. "There is no better feeling than that. I was looking up at the replay like, ‘Damn.’"

Meanwhile, Wayzata contained Ahneman, Cretin-Derham Hall's center and focal point of the offense. Junior Tommy Shunmugavelu guarded him for much of the night, and Wayzata was able to contain the Raiders' offense because of it.

"We were hoping we could guard him 1-on-1," Schnettler said. "[Shunmugavelu] proved that he could, and that proved to be a huge difference because we could take away some of their shooters a little more, which was a key to a game."

Monteff Dixon led Cretin-Derham Hall with 18 points. Ahneman finished with 15 points and eight rebounds. The Raiders' leading scorer, Ty Schlagel, was held to just nine points.

Nolen Anderson led the Trojans with 24 points and ten rebounds. Christian Wiggins added 21 points, and Isaac Olmstead had 13 points and seven assists.

Its Wayzata's fourth championship in boys basketball history, and its third in five years.

"If we can get these guys, with the talent that we have, to connect, and learn to love each other and play for each other, by the end of the year you get something really special," Schnettler said.
