HOW THE TOP 10 FARED (NOV. 6)
1. Oak Grove (9-0) beat Northwest Rankin 56-30
Last week: Defeated Pearl 47-7
Kabe Barnett threw four touchdown passes as the Grovers captured the top playoff seed coming out of Region 3-6A. They will host Biloxi in the first round of the 6A playoffs. -- 6A PLAYOFF BRACKET
2. Oxford (9-0) beat Tupelo 25-14
Last week: Defeated Olive Branch 37-27
Oxford won its 22nd straight game and captured the Region 1-6A title. They'll host Madison Central next week in the first round of the 6A playoffs. -- 6A PLAYOFF BRACKET
3. D’Iberville (9-0) beat St. Martin 34-16
Last week: Defeated Harrison Central 20-13
D’Iberville put a bow on its Region 4 title and now moves on to the 6A playoffs as one of three unbeaten teams. They'll host Petal in the first round of the 6A playoffs. -- 6A PLAYOFF BRACKET
4. Starkville (7-3) lost to Clinton 35-7
Last week: Lost to Warren Central by forfeit
With the loss to Clinton, Starkville's season is over. One aspect of this season we’ll likely look back on and wonder what “could have been” is the last three weeks of October for preseason No. 1 Starkville. The Yellow Jackets had a chance to win the Region outright with wins over Warren Central last Friday and Clinton this week, but had to forfeit to the Vikings due to COVID.
5. South Panola (8-2) bye week
Last week: Defeated Warren Central 36-35 in double OT
The Tigers bounced back from a mid-season slump and won their final three games of the regular season after starting 0-2 in region play. With Clinton's win over Starkville, South Panola is in the playoffs as the No. 2 seed coming out of Region 2. They'll host Hernando in the first round of the 6A playoffs. -- 6A PLAYOFF BRACKET
6. Newton County (10-0) beat Purvis 23-14 in 4A playoffs
Last week: Defeated Northeast Jones 50-0
The Cougars rallied from a 14-7 halftime deficit to win their first-round 4A playoff game. They'll play North Pike next week in the second round. -- 4A PLAYOFF BRACKET
7. Ridgeland (8-2) bye week
Last week: forfeited to Holmes County Central
The still-in-quarantine Titans will get the No. 3 seed coming out of 2-5A. They will travel to Lake Cormorant next week in the first round of the playoffs. -- 5A PLAYOFF BRACKET
8. Neshoba Central (7-1) bye week
Last week: Defeated Cleveland Central via forfeit
Neshoba Central will be the No. 1 seed coming out of Region 2-5A. They will host Lafayette next week in the first round of the playoffs. -- 5A PLAYOFF BRACKET
9. Ocean Springs (8-2) lost to Harrison Central 35-28
Last week: Defeated Gulfport 17-10
With the loss Ocean Springs takes the No. 3 seed in Region 4-6A, while Harrison Central earns the No. 2 seed. Ocean Springs will travel to Northwest Rankin next week in the first round of the 6A playoffs. -- 6A PLAYOFF BRACKET
T10. Northwest Rankin (7-3) lost to No. 1 Oak Grove 56-30
Last week: Lost to Brandon 42-21
The Cougars could not stop Oak Grove's explosive offense on Friday night. They will host Ocean Springs in the opening round of the playoffs. -- 6A PLAYOFF BRACKET
T10. Picayune (8-2) lost to Wayne County 27-16
Last week: Lost to Pascagoula 42-25
The Maroon Tide would've captured the No. 1 seed coming out of Region 4-5A with a victory. With the loss they'll host West Jones next week in the first round of the 5A playoffs. -- 5A PLAYOFF BRACKET
