Congratulations to Forrest County AHS linebacker Cortez Sims on winning the fan vote for SBLive Mississippi Athlete of the Week!

Sims was instrumental in the Aggies’ 24-16 opening-round playoff win over Northeast Jones, recording 10 tackles, including two for a loss, with one sack.

Sims received more than 8,100 votes from across the state, representing 58.19 percent of all the votes cast. His tally was enough to beat out Oak Grove quarterback Anthony Maddox, Jr., who finished second with 3,509 votes.

Here’s a look at the rest of the nominees from last week:

Jacob Bradford, DL, St. Stanislaus

Was credited with 10 total tackles, including 2.5 stops behind the line and two sacks. Also had a pass breakup and blocked an extra point in a 23-20 win over Crystal Springs.

Brayden Jordan, RB, Laurel

Rushed for 252 yards and five touchdowns on 36 carries in a 48-30 win over Gautier.

Deuce Knight, QB, George County

Completed 23 of his 36 passes for 343 yards with five touchdown in a 43-40 win over Pascagoula.

Anthony Maddox Jr., QB, Oak Grove

Completed 21 of his 30 passes for 355 yards with three touchdowns and added 96 yards on the ground in a 48-21 win over Petal.

Destin McCray, WR/DB, Heidelberg

On offense, he caught one touchdown pass and rushed for a score. On defense, he recorded 10 tackles, including two for a loss, snagged two interceptions and returned a fumble 24 yards for another touchdown in a 66-0 win over Pelahatchie.

C.J. Rush, RB, Philadelphia

Rushed for 189 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries, caught a 35-yard touchdown pass and returned a kickoff 75 yards for another score in a 48-15 win over Water Valley.

Nico Williams, QB, Gulfport

Completed 18 of his 22 passes for 324 yards with four touchdowns and added another score on the ground in a 49-7 win over Harrison Central.
