LADUE, Mo. – Jack Enger's two-out, two-run single started the scoring in a five-run first inning for the John Burroughs baseball team on Tuesday.
That was all the offense the Bombers would need with ace Julian Schenck on the mound and Hall Chapman in relief.
Schenck and Chapman combined to allow just three hits and strike out nine across five scoreless innings as Burroughs defeated visiting Sullivan 10-0 in five innings in a Missouri Class 5 sectional game.
The win was the 24th in a row for Burroughs (25-3), the No. 18 team in the SBLive Missouri Power 25 rankings, which goes on the road to face No. 24 Kennett (22-8) in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Kennett, which won the Class 4 championship in 2021 and finished third a year ago, defeated Potosi 4-0 in the sectional round on Tuesday.
Will Chapman had three hits and scored three times for Burroughs, while Enger, Tucker Desloge and Calvin Gelle each added two hits. Desloge, who finished with four RBIs, hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning.
Sullivan finished its season with a 16-9 record.
