Missouri high school football playoffs heat up this week

It is time to buckle up for some big-time games this week. 

Last week, most of the teams in the Power 25 did not play due to first-round byes. Now, we have district semifinal games and some big matchups as teams work to advance further in the playoffs.

1. Lee's Summit North (9-0)

Previous rank: 1 Last week: Idle

The Broncos will face in-town rival Lee’s Summit in the first round of the playoffs. North has won the past five in the series, including a 37-16 win on Sept. 15.

2. Liberty North (8-1)

Previous rank: 2 Last week: Idle

The Eagles will look to extend their winning streak to nine in a row when they face Blue Springs in a rematch of a game earlier this season. The Eagles won 40-0 on Sept. 29 and have won seven straight in the rivalry.

3. Cardinal Ritter (8-0)

Previous rank: 3 Last week: Idle

The Lions will face University City for the second straight year in the postseason and won the showdown last year, 54-8.

4. Nixa (9-0)

Previous rank: 4 Last week: Idle

The Eagles retained the Backyard Brawl traveling trophy on Oct. 20 and will face their Christian County rival Ozark for the second game in a row after the Tigers beat Waynesville last week.

5. De Smet (7-1)

Previous rank: 5 Last week: idle

The Spartans lost their last game of the regular season, back in Week 8, and had a bye last week. Now they face a Hazelwood Central squad this week that they are 2-4 against in the postseason.

6. CBC (7-2)

Previous rank: 6 Last week: Def. Kirkwood 37-16

Alex Morris ran for 138 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a win over the Pioneers last week to open Class 6 District 2 play.

7. Rockhurst (8-1)

Previous rank: 7 Last week: Idle

The two teams knew of this matchup last week but had to wait to finally play. This will be the fourth meeting in the fifth showdown and the Hawklets are 4-1 in those matchups.

8. St. Dominic (9-0)

Previous rank: 8 Last week: Idle

The Crusaders will face the Wolves in the Class 5 District 4 semifinals. The last meeting between the two teams was in 2007, according to MSHSAA records.

9. Lutheran North (8-1)

Previous rank: 9 Last week: Idle

The last time the Crusaders faced Normandy was in the 2016 and 2017 seasons – outscoring their neighboring foes 140-6 in two victories.

10. Francis Howell (8-2)

Previous rank: 10 Last week: Def. Vianney 76-47

Last week was the first time the Vikings scored 70 or more points since Week 3 in 2021 and the most in the MSHSAA database that tracks scores through 2010.

11. Grain Valley (8-1)

The Eagles take a six-game win streak into this week's matchup against William Chrisman and have never lost to the Bears since joining the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference.

12. Blair Oaks (8-1)

Previous rank: 12 Last week: Idle

The Falcons defeated Southern Boone in the Tri-County Conference title game in Week 9 and now the rivals will meet again for the second time in three weeks.

13. Hillsboro (8-1)

Previous rank: 13 Last week: Idle

This is the third time since 2020 that the Hawks have faced North County in the regular season and then again in the postseason. In the previous two showdowns, the Hawks won the regular season matchup and then lost the rematch in the postseason. This year, Hillsboro beat North County 48-0 in the regular season.

14. East Buchanan (9-0)

Previous rank: 14 Last week: Idle

This will be the first meeting between the Bulldogs and Brookfield since back-to-back games in 2014 and 2015. Each team won during that span.

15. Lamar (8-1)

Previous rank: 15 Last week: Idle

Despite only being about 40 miles apart on Highway 71, Lamar and Diamond will play for the first time since 2011 this week.

The Indians have won eight in a row heading into this week's game against Lindbergh. Jackson is 1-1 against the St. Louis area school.

17. Lebanon (9-0)

The Yellowjackets have a district showdown with Branson for the second straight season. Last year Lebanon won 40-0.

18. Rockwood Summit (9-0)

In another unique scheduling quirk, the Falcons will face the Parkway West for the second straight game. In the regular-season finale, the Falcons won 59-20 with senior quarterback Grant Gibson accounting for seven total touchdowns. Parkway West is coming off a 20-17 win over rival Parkway Central last week.

19. Helias (8-1)

The Crusaders have posted three shutouts this season and two in a row heading into their Class 5 District 5 game at Washington this week.

Dating back to 2009, the Indians have faced Cassville 20 times and have won seven of those matchups – including the last three.

21. Oak Park (9-0)

The Northmen posted an undefeated regular season but will now face a long-time nemesis in Staley – which is 14-0 vs. its fellow North Kansas City District foe.

22. South Shelby (9-0)

Previous rank: 24 Last week: Def. Palmyra 55-0

South Shelby faces Clark County in a Week 5 rematch from when the Cardinals won 44-14.

23. Maryville (8-1)

Previous rank: 23 Last week: Idle

The Spoofhounds have won eight in a row since dropping their season opener and will now face a familiar foe in Cameron. Maryville has won 17 in a row against its Midland Empire Conference rival.

24. Seckman (9-0)

Previous rank: 24 Last week: Idle

The Jaguars will face Oakville for the second time in the past two weeks and have won five in a row in the series. The Tigers defeated Northwest (Cedar Hill) 56-14 and have now won two straight games since a rough stretch of four losses in five weeks.

25. Lafayette (Wildwood) (8-1)

Previous rank: 25 Last week: Idle

The Lancers have won eight in a row since losing their season opener by three points and will now face the reigning Class 5 champion Francis Howell. It will be the first time Lafayette has faced the Vikings since a Class 6 playoff game back in 2012 – which the Lancers lost 17-6 loss.
