Then you decide which is the best of the best. 

Here are the candidates for SBLive's National Athlete of the Week for Sept. 25-Oct. 2, as nominated by fans, readers and SBLive's national newsroom.

Briggs Bartosh, Park Hill South (Missouri) football

Set a school record with 512 all-purpose yards: 340 passing yards and two touchdowns and 145 rushing yards and two more on the ground.

Mitchell Berger, Beechwood (Kentucky) football

Carried the ball 22 times for 234 yards and five touchdowns during Beechwood’s 37-14 win over Dixie Heights. Add 27 yards as a receiver, and Berger accounted for 251 of the Tigers’ 403 yards offense.

Johnny Bezdicek, Hastings (Minnesota) football

Senior wideout turned eight passes into 143 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning touchdown and two-point conversion in a 28-27 overtime win at South St. Paul.

Folger Boaz, East Surry (North Carolina) football

Completed 29 of 41 passes for 348 yards and five touchdowns opposite no interceptions in a 41-19 win over Wilkes Central. Also carried seven times for 88 rushing yards.

Bennett Brueck, Indianola (Iowa) football

Senior quarterback passed for 402 yards and four touchdowns and ran for one more in a 45-33 shootout win over Norwalk in the battle of Warren County.

Jack Cendoya, Mount Pigsah (Georgia) football

82 percent completion rate on a 324-yard, six touchdown performance. That’s not all, on the ground he had 12 carries 131 yards and a touchdown.

Ri Fletcher, Hartselle (Alabama) football

Efficient and game-changing. That's how to describe his 12-carry, 200-yard, two touchdown rushing performance, which was capped by a game-winning score with 17 seconds left to fuel a 29-26 win over Muscle Shoals.

Isaac Galvan, El Paso Montwoo (Texas) football

Completed 37 of 52 passes for 460 yards and three TD throws to lead Montwood to a 43-42 shootout win against district rival El Paso Franklin on Thursday.

Dreyden Garner, University City (California) football

Gardner caught a touchdown, returned a kickoff for a touchdown and returned an interception 24 yards for a touchdown in Friday's win over Mission Bay.

Brendan Haisenleder, Cardinal Mooney (Michigan) football

Went for 148 rushing yards on 28 attempts and two touchdowns and logged 12 tackles on defense and an interception in a 15-8 win over Clarkston Everest. 

Luke Hansen, Roncalli (Indiana) football

Indiana's leading rusher went over 300 yards for the third time this season, finishing with 316 yards on 37 carries with all Roncalli's four touchdowns — runs of 58 and 73 yards as well as two more from one-yard out. 

Bennie Hill, Scott (Kentucky) football

Rushed 32 times for an eye-popping 328 yards and all six of his team’s touchdowns in a 54-35 win over Harrison County.

Dominic Johnson, Hawken (Ohio) football

Senior rushed 31 times for 296 yards and three touchdowns in Hawken’s 35-27 win against Berkshire. On the other side of the ball, he added 12 tackles and an interception.

Ousmane Kromah, Lee County (Georgia) football

The sophomore running back had his best game of the season and the ball 22 times for 275 yards and five touchdowns to help knock-off previous undefeated Houston County.

Erik McCarty, McAlester (Oklahoma) football

The Oklahoma commit had three receiving touchdowns and 160 yards receiving, 84 yards rushing and touchdown on the ground as McAlester came back from a 10-point deficit with 1:48 to go in regulation to win a 34-33 overtime thriller.

Ethan Miller, Prairie Grove (Arkansas) football

Made a lot of Prairie Grove's problems go away, turning 16 carries into 295 yards and three touchdowns — including scores of 64 and 44 yards — in a 46-40 win over Harrison. 

J.T. Miller, Rogers (Arkansas) football

Responsible for a win his program hadn't seen since he was likely a toddler. His 38-yard field goal with nine seconds left lifted his team to a win over Fayetteville — 29-28 — for the first time in 17 years.

Kaden Salamanca, Umatilla (Oregon) football

Senior quarterback rushed for 243 yards and three touchdowns, including a 48-yard game-winner with three minutes left. Vikings beat Weston-McEwen/Griswold, 36-25.

Jabrae Shaw, Little Rock Mills (Arkansas) football

Central Arkansas commit was a one-man turnover chain. He picked off three passes and took one of them back 85 yards for a touchdown and caught a 20-yard touchdown reception in a 30-0 win over Maumelle.

Gray Walters, Benton (Louisiana) football

Threw for 516 yards and eight touchdowns to lead the Tigers over Byrd, 63-28.

Braylen Williams, Nettleton (Mississippi) football

Completed 26 of his 48 passes for 393 yards, four touchdowns through the air, two more on the ground and 52 rushing yards in a 42-41 overtime win over Senatobia.
