Langston Hughes (Georgia) football upset by Butler (NC)
After starting the 2023 season with a pair of wins, nationally-ranked Langston Hughes (Georgia) faltered in a week three matchup with Butler (North Carolina).
Butler visited Atlanta for a Saturday night showdown with Langston Hughes, No. 15 in the SBLive Power 25 national rankings, and the Bulldogs came out on top to hand the Panthers their first loss of the season.
Butler jumped out to a 17-0 lead over Langston Hughes in the first quarter and never looked back. The Bulldogs, the No. 23 ranked team in North Carolina, led 30-14 at halftime, and despite not scoring any points in the second half, were able to hang on for a 30-27 win over Langston Hughes, the No. 3 ranked team in Georgia.
Langston Hughes opened the 2023 season with a thrilling win over USC quarterback commit Julian Lewis and Carrollton (Georgia) in a nationally-televised game. The Panthers followed that up with a 40-9 win over in-state opponent McEachern last week.
It's unclear how much this loss will impact the national standing for Langston Hughes (2-1), which will attempt to bounce back at New Manchester in its region opener on Sept. 15.
Fresh off its big win, Butler (2-1) is set to host Weddington, the No. 3 ranked team in North Carolina, next week.
