Peyton Houston, top-ranked freshman quarterback, leaves Calvary Baptist (Louisiana): Report
Peyton Houston saw limited varsity high school football action as an eighth-grade quarterback for Calvary Baptist (Louisiana) last year, and he earned the backup job as a freshman.
But he's left Calvary Baptist in search of a new team, according to Prep Redzone LA reporter Jerit Roser.
Update: Peyton Houston transfers to Evangel Christian
Ranked the top dual-threat quarterback in the nation by QB Hit List, Houston already holds offers from Power 5 schools such as Texas Tech, Mississippi State and Ole Miss.
He wrote a "Thank you for everything" post on social media Friday to Calvary Baptist:
Houston got in the game Thursday night in Calvary Baptist's 61-27 win over Captain Shreve, but junior Abram Wardell started at quarterback, as he did in the season opener.
Louisiana high school football scoreboard
Wardell is off to a solid start as a junior after a super-efficient sophomore year where he completed 78% of his passes and threw for 33 touchdowns against just four interceptions.
This year through two games, he's completed 42 of 54 passes for 680 yards and seven touchdowns with just one interception.
In two games of backup duty, Houston completed 7 of 12 passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns. Here's one of those two TD passes:
QB Hit List ranks Houston as the No. 2 overall freshman quarterback in the country behind Trent Seaborn of Thompson (Alabama).
Wherever Houston ends up, look for him to compete for the starting job early.
And look for Wardell to lead Calvary Baptist to a season even better than last fall's 9-3 campaign.
