Look: Kahuku (Hawaii) loss to Mater Dei can't stop coach from smiling, players from dancing

Visiting team's postgame performance in California doesn't look like a squad that just lost by 47 points

Kahuku (Hawaii) may have lost to Mater Dei (California) over the weekend, but the No. 1 team in the Aloha State showed its typical surplus of spirit.

Mater Dei, the No. 1 high school football team in the national SBLive/Sports Illustrated Power 25, beat Kahuku 55-8 on Saturday in Santa Ana behind a huge performance from Elijah Brown, but the visitors didn't look defeated.

The Kahuku crowd stayed fired up despite falling behind 41-8 at halftime, and the visiting coach — Sterling Carvalho — glowed about the experience his players gained from a trip they'll never forget. He said many of his players had never left Hawaii before.

But Carvalho also was blunt about what went wrong on the field Saturday.

"Against the No. 1 team in the nation, you cannot make mistakes, and you cannot turn over the ball," he said.

Watch the video above for highlights from the game, more from Carvalho and an earth-shattering dance performance from the Kahuku players.

Some of the players performed something similar last year against St. John Bosco.

"What I witnessed tonight will never leave me," a St. John Bosco staff member said after the game last year.

The Kahuku legend keeps growing in Southern California.
