Best high school girls basketball posts in the nation entering the 2023-24 season

Expect these 20 interior players to put up big stats this winter

As the fall season wages on throughout most of the country, winter's high school girls basketball season is well underway in multiple states.

SBLive Sports is highlighting some of the best players in the nation as we start the winter season.

We've been taking a position-by-position look at some of the best of the best in high school girls basketball, starting with the top point guards, combo guardswings and forwards, and now we finish the series with the top posts.

Here are 20 of the best posts in the nation entering the 2023-24 high school girls basketball season.

Naomi Benson, jr., Streetsboro (Ohio)

Benson isn’t the biggest post at 6-foot-3, but the junior is one of the most ferocious rebounders in the Midwest. She averaged 15.3 points, 14.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.3 seals and 1.9 blocks per game a season ago for Streetsboro. 

Sienna Betts, jr., Grandview (Colorado)

The reigning Colorado Gatorade Player of the Year, Betts is a left-handed center with elite post skills. The five-star recruit averaged 21.8 points, 16.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists during her sophomore season for Grandview. 

Ciara Byars, jr., George Rogers Clark (Kentucky)

Byars is a versatile junior who can bang down low and also hang on the perimeter. She put up 18.2 points and 8.8 rebounds a season ago for a George Rogers Clark team that reached the state semifinals. 

Jenessa Cotton, sr., Mater Dei (California)

Cotton excels with her back to the basket, but the senior post can also knock down mid-range jumpers with ease. She committed to Duke in October. 

Alexandra Eschmeyer, jr., Peak to Peak (Colorado)

Another Coloradan, Eschmeyer dominated as a sophomore by tallying 19.5 points, 14 rebounds, 4.9 blocks, 1.6 assists and 1.6 steals. Her early offers include Louisville and Stanford. 

Avery Gordon, jr., Brownsburg (Indiana)

A classic 6-foot-6 post, Gordon averaged 18 points, nine rebounds and three blocks as a sophomore. She recently committed to Purdue. 

Roisin Grandberry, sr., Rolling Meadows (Illinois)

Grandberry is a versatile center who can score, rebound and pass at a high level while also playing strong defense in the paint. She is staying home for college to play for Loyola-Chicago. 

Ava Heiden, sr., Sherwood (Oregon)

Heiden was a dominant two-way player as a sophomore but missed most of last season due to an ankle injury. The Iowa commit is hoping to end her Sherwood career with a deep Class 6A postseason run. 

Ella Hobbs, sr., Jay M. Robinson (North Carolina)

Hobbs began her career at Jay M. Robinson, played last season for 1 of 1 Prep in Charlotte and is back with the Bulldogs for her senior year. The dominant interior force is committed to Ohio State. 

Kate Koval, sr., Long Island Lutheran (New York)

Long Island Lutheran post Kate Koval is one of the top-ranked senior recruits in the country.

A Ukraine native, Koval has blossomed into one of the country’s top posts at Long Island Lutheran. The five-star Notre Dame commit was voted New York Gatorade Player of the Year last winter after averaging 15.1 points, 11.7 rebounds and 3.4 blocks. 

Emaya Lewis, sr., Loganville (Georgia)

Lewis has averaged a double-double each of the past two seasons for Loganville. As a junior, she put up 17.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, four blocks, two steals and one assist. 

Sophia McCartney, sr., Neumann (Florida)

McCartney averaged a staggering 16.9 rebounds during her junior season for Neumann. The Army commit also tallied 19.9 points, 3.5 assists, 2.9 steals and 2.3 blocks. 

Brynn McGaughy, jr., Colfax (Washington)

McGaughy propelled Colfax to the Class 2B state championship a year ago, averaging 21.5 points and 10.3 rebounds. The five-star junior suffered an offseason ankle injury but should be able to play most of the upcoming season. 

Arianna Roberson, sr., Clark (Texas)

Also a standout middle blocker in volleyball, Roberson is a five-star center prospect for the class of 2024 who will play college basketball for Duke. She had 24 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks in last year’s Class 6A state championship game victory over DeSoto. 

Zania Socka-Nguemen, sr., Sidwell Friends (D.C.)

A dominant interior presence for Sidwell Friends, Socka-Nguemen is an efficient scorer and strong defender. The UCLA commit is a five-star prospect. 

Adhel Tac, sr., South Grand Prairie (Texas)

Tac averaged 14.1 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks as a sophomore before missing most of her junior season due to injury. Back at full strength, the South Carolina commit is poised to dominate this winter for South Grand Prairie. 

Blanca Thomas, sr., Charlotte Catholic (North Carolina)

A five-star North Carolina commit, Thomas is a defensive standout who averaged 16.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 4.2 blocks last winter. She led Charlotte Catholic in all three categories. 

Jordan Thomas, sr., Hebron (Texas)

Thomas averaged a double-double during her junior season, putting up 13.7 points and 12.7 rebounds. She will play college basketball in the Big 12 for West Virginia. 

Olivia Vukosa, so., Christ the King (New York)

One of the top national recruits for the class of 2026, Vukosa is a 6-foot-4 center with with the ability to score, rebound and defend. The five-star prospect is very mobile for her size. 

Faith Wiseman, sr., Indian Creek (Indiana)

Wiseman averaged 16.1 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.6 blocks during her junior season for Indian Creek. She will play college basketball for Indiana.
