Aliquippa 60, Dallas 14: Live updates recap from Pennsylvania 4A high school football championship game

State championship time has arrived in Pennsylvania high school football, and the action continues with Dallas vs. Aliquippa Thursday night at Cumberland Valley High School.

It will be a battle of the unbeatens as Aliquippa (13-0) takes on Dallas (15-0) Thursday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. Eastern time.

FOURTH QUARTER UPDATES

Hayes finishes with 222 rushing yards and three touchdowns. 

TOUCHDOWN QUIPS! Tracy takes it up the middle 46 yards to the end zone for another touchdown. The Quips’ lead is 60-14 with 11:49 to go in the game. 

THIRD QUARTER UPDATES

INTERCEPTION! Walker comes up with another interception — Aliquippa’s fifth of the game — to end a Dallas scoring threat. Heading to the fourth quarter, Aliquippa's lead remains 53-14

502 yards of total offense for the Quips. They are averaging nearly 13 yards per play. 

TOUCHDOWN QUIPS! Cameron Lindsey runs it in from nine yards out, giving Aliquippa a 53-14 lead with 6:11 to go in the third. The TD was set up by an 83-yard Brandon Banks catch-and-run. 

INTERCEPTION! Arison Walker records the Quips’ fourth interception of the game. First-and-10 Aliquippa from the Dallas 8, leading 46-14 with 6:50 remaining. 

TOUCHDOWN QUIPS! John Tracy runs it in from 15 yards out to put Aliquippa up 46-14 with 9:09 to play in the period. The Quips are closing in on their fifth PIAA title. 

Aliquippa, leading 40-14, will start with the ball at its own 42 to open the second half. 

HALFTIME NOTES 

Aliquippa leads 40-14 at the break. 

The Quips ran for 287 yards on 24 carries, but Qa’lil Goode has been the team’s biggest star with three first-half interceptions, including an 85-yard pick-six.

Tiqwai Hayes has 179 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries.

SECOND QUARTER UPDATES

James Franklin has exited the stadium in a helicopter.

FUMBLE! Aliquippa recovers a fumble on the ensuing kickoff. First-and-10 Quips from the Mountaineers 41 with 1:09 remaining. 

INTERCEPTION! Qa’lil Goode does it again! The sophomore intercepts a fourth-down pass at the 15 and takes it to the house. Aliquippa leads 40-14 with 1:20 to go in the period on Goode's third interception of the half.  

So many flags … 

Lots of downtime, stoppages and penalties, but Dallas has it at the Aliquippa 48 with 3:04 to go in the period following the Quips’ first punt of the evening. Dallas has all three of its timeouts, trailing 32-14

TOUCHDOWN MOUNTAINEERS! Dylan Geskey punches it in from one yard out, cutting Aliquippa’s lead to 32-14 with 4:30 remaining in the half. 

INTERCEPTION! Paczewski gets one back for Dallas with a red zone pick and long return. Mountaineers take over at the Quips 39 with 7:24 left in the half. 

INTERCEPTION! Qa’lil Goode grabs another one, his second of the game and fifth of the season. First-and-10 Quips from the Dallas 16.

TOUCHDOWN QUIPS! Hayes cannot be stopped. His third TD of the game is a 61-yard highlight run. He has 13 carries for 154 yards and three scores. Aliquippa’s advantage grows to 32-7 with 9:15 to go in the period.  

After forcing another Dallas punt, Aliquippa takes over at its own 6 with 11:40 remaining in the opening half. The lead is still 24-7.

FIRST QUARTER UPDATES

TOUCHDOWN QUIPS! Hayes runs it in from 34 yards out for his second touchdown of the game. Another Aliquippa two-point conversion makes it 24-7 with 1:04 remaining. A 23-yard run by Hayes on fourth-and-one from near midfield set up the TD. 

TOUCHDOWN MOUNTAINEERS! Quarterback Zach Paczewski connects with Gavin Lewis on a 39-yard touchdown pass, cutting Aliquippa’s lead to 16-7 with 4:22 to play in the quarter. 

TOUCHDOWN QUIPS! Hayes runs it in from seven yards out to give Aliquippa a 16-0 lead with 5:28 to play in the period. 

INTERCEPTION! Qa’lil Goode’s fourth pick of the year sets Aliquippa up with another possession inside Dallas territory. 

Penn State head coach James Franklin is in attendance to watch Hayes, a four-star Nittany Lions commit. 

TOUCHDOWN QUIPS! After forcing a three-and-out, Aliquippa strikes first on a 36-yard touchdown throw from Quentin Goode to Brandon Banks. Tiqwai Hayes and John Tracy did most of the damage, but the drive’s seventh play resulted in a long TD. Hayes then ran in the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead with 8:04 remaining in the period. 

We are underway at Cumberland Valley High School. Aliquippa won the toss and deferred to the second half. Dallas will start the game at its own 39.

The Quips captured their 20th WPIAL title in November and bring a loaded roster to Cumberland Valley.

Junior running back Tiqwai Hayes, a four-star Penn State commit, has 1,908 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns this season. Senior Quentin Goode is Aliquippa’s all-time leading passer and fellow senior John Tracy is a threat as a runner and receiver.

On defense, the Quips are led by linebacker Cameron Lindsey, a Pitt commit.

Dallas’ Cinderella run continued last week with a 26-23 double-overtime upset of Bishop McDevitt, the defending 4A champion.

Junior tailback Dylan Geskey is the offensive star for the Mountaineers. He has run for nearly 1,500 yards and 27 touchdowns this fall.

Aliquippa, the 2021 4A champion, is looking to win its fifth state title. Dallas’ lone PIAA crown came in 1993.
