Look: Mission Viejo 4-star WR Phillip Bell 'goes out with a bang' in CIF title win over De La Salle

NorCal transfer spoils long trip for Spartans with seven catches, two touchdowns in a 27-14 Division 1-AA championship win

MISSION VIEJO, CALIFORNIA — Mission Viejo four-star junior receiver Phillip Bell is a Northern California native who grew up playing against many members of De La Salle, the Diablos opponent in Friday's CIF State Division 1-AA championship game at Saddleback College.

"All my friends are on that team so it was a big game for me," Bell said after Mission Viejo's 27-14 victory. "It sucked to have to beat them. But it gets how it gets."

Bell got busy throughout the Diablos' second state championship win, with seven catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns.

The state's No. 23 ranked junior recruit overall by 247Sports, Bell is a lad in demand with 37 college offers including Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon and Miami. He's not focused on recruiting yet, instead savoring the victory with his new team.

Last year, Bell played at Christian Brothers of Sacramento.

"Coming into the season it was a little up and down," he said. "But going into the posteason, that's when it all clicked. We went out with a bang."
